Words Below:
Cooper rushed home to play Block World, the latest virtual reality game from Virtual Worlds Unlimited. Every game had its own unique style to distinguish it from the other games and this one was no different. Block World was a world composed entirely of blocks. Virtual avatars could gets points by mining, crafting, and playing games or simply explore the world.
Without even bothering to read the instructions, Cooper activated the game and used the optional hypnosis feather. That way he could experience things from the point of view of his avatar. He clicked on one of the avatars without paying too much attention to the details.
The virtual world appeared all around him. It was made entirely of large blocks. This was because the game was still loading and only the basic functions were ready. Details would be added over time.
Cooper looked at his virtual body. It was just blocks for the head, chest, arms, and legs. Except for the colors all the avatars looked alike. A path led through a field with grass, trees, and flowers and over to the house where his avatar lived.
As Cooper walked along the path, the blocks became smaller and the trees and flowers became more and more detailed. He looked down at his virtual body. The legs were skin colored and the clothing puffed out resembling a dress more than shorts. With horror, he realized he had made the mistake.
The only reason Cooper realized this at all was because the hypnosis feather, like the rest of the game, was not fully downloaded. Just enough of it existed in his mind to prevent him from leaving. Thoughts of living in a house surrounded by trees and flowers entered "her" mind gradually becoming more and more detailed. It became the only life "she" knew.
Cooper could either mine for gold and other rare elements so "she" could buy more items for "her" house or "she" could simply explore "her" surroundings. Since Cooper was playing the game for the first time "she" decided to explore. A few minutes later "she" was chatting with NPCs. A few minutes after that "she" was interacting with other players.
They taught "her" some games and how to craft items like dresses and jewelry. Soon "she" had some fancy clothing and jewelry to wear. Once "she" created her new look, they led "her" to the town. Cooper was proud of what "she" had done. It may not have looked like much compared to those around "her", but "she" did it all on "her" own.
Fortunately, Cooper was able to log out when it was time for him to eat. His original memories came flooding back. This made him feel quite embarrassed. He wondered if it was even worth it to get the items he had acquired while under hypnosis. He might be better off just starting over.
