Otis was on the subway when he noticed a famous singer in the same car he was. Her fame extended more to people who liked obscure music than the general public. Even so he wondered what she was doing taking the subway. She was rich enough to take a limousine ride or at least a taxi.
If she was trying to hide her identity she was not doing a very good job of it. Her expensive outfit really stood out. Remembering many of her songs, Otis found himself admiring her from the other side of the car. As they started moving, he built up the courage to walk over to her. She turned her head in response but did not say a word.
Otis named some of her songs and asked if she sang them. She said she had sung them before. Although technically true, it was said with the intention to deceive. This was actually Magenta Smith, a double agent who actually worked for the Junebug Talent Agency. She knew the subliminal messages were working on Otis and she was ready to make her move.
The person who actually sang the songs had fallen out of favor and needed to be replaced. Otis would do just fine. She told him the Junebug Talent Agency was looking for a new singer. That got his attention. Then she told him she had a contract available and he could sign at a building near the next stop.
Otis agreed to this. He could afford to be slightly late to work. This was too big a deal to pass up. They got off the subway together and walked over to the building which was surprisingly empty for a part of the city that was so crowded. Otis was imagining himself wearing the outfit Smith had on and singing her songs in front of a sold out crowd.
"I noticed you were admiring my outfit," smiled Smith once they were alone. "How would you like to have an outfit like mine? How would you like to have a body like mine?"
"I don't think that would be possible," stammered Otis.
"You will find the Junebug Talent Agency can do many things you do not think possible," insisted Smith. "All you have to do is sign with us."
Otis found himself changing. Smith was also changing. Otis became a few years younger and Smith became a few years older. Otis got lighter while Smith got heavier. Smith grew body hair while the body hair on Otis disappeared. Smith became male while Otis, or Odette became female.
At this point the subliminal messages from the songs Odette heard many times were triggered. She was convinced she had always been Odette and been with the Junebug Talent Agency for as long as she could remember. She hardly even noticed when she found herself wearing the outfit she had been admiring while Smith wore the clothes Otis once wore.
Once the changes were done, Smith changed his body to become thinner and more handsome. Odette gazed deeply into his eyes. She was ready to do anything he said including renewing her contract which would actually be signing it for the first time.
That was exactly what Smith wanted Odette to do. She gladly signed the contract. Then he took her to the recording studio where she would immediately take the place of the previous singer as if nothing had happened. The previous singer would be mind wiped and given other work.
Smith thought Odette would do a good job. If not, there were plenty of people who were listening to their music. It would not be too difficult to find someone else.
