Nathan was a student at Magic Academy. He had gone with some of his friends to a beach known only to those in the magical world. Nathan had insisted on going because a magical underwater portal had been spotted there. Unlike the more stable portals found in swimming pools, the portals found in oceans were unpredictable. They could start leading to different locations or suddenly entirely.
Nathan felt this was his last chance to try something different. His parents had his life planned out for him. Once summer was over, he would complete his final year at Magic Academy. Then he would work for them at the magic shop. It was not what he wanted to do but he had little say in the matter. Both his parents were skilled with magic and he did not want to provoke them.
Even in the magical world it seemed silly to chase magic portals, but Nathan was running out of options. His friends were not that interested in the portal. They just wanted to have a good time at the beach. Nathan told them he was going to go looking for it and headed out. He cast an air bottle around himself and headed off.
Going deeper than any non-magical human could go without equipment, Nathan reached the bottom of the ocean. There he saw a faint glow pulsing in the distance. He swam over to it hoping it was indeed what he thought it was. It was what he thought it was but it was very unstable. The pulsing was irregular and looked like it was going to disappear at any moment. Without giving it a second thought, Nathan swam through it.
The change was instantaneous. When Nathan, or Natalie, rose to the surface and gasped for air her voice sounded different. She had become a female with large breasts, pink hair in a ponytail, and one piece swimsuit with a magical cape behind her. Natalie felt dizzy from her ordeal. She put her hands up to her head in an attempt to steady her thoughts. Something was different about her situation but she could not figure out what it was.
"Is anyone there?" Natalie called out figuring the only thing scarier than meeting someone was meeting no one.
"Yes, there is an entire magical village here!" an old man shouted back.
Natalie knew about magical villages. They could be found all over the world. Most kept out only non-magic beings and granted access to magical beings of all kinds but there were a few that kept themselves hidden from everyone. She had never heard of this village so she guessed it was one of the latter. They were probably responsible for creating the portal.
"Sorry to disturb you!" said Natalie. "I'll just head back."
"I am afraid it is too late for that," the old man informed her as he came closer. "The portal just closed."
"Where am I?" asked Natalie.
"Not too far from where you were," said the old man. "You are just in a deeper part of the ocean. That portal was unstable where you were through it. You might want to have someone look you over and make sure there were no side effects."
Natalie swam ashore and the old man took her to see the doctor. After she examined her, the doctor explained the was still a faint magical residue on Natalie. There had been some subtle magical changes to her but there was no way to figure out what they were.
The three of them discussed things and decided the best thing to do was take Natalie back where she belonged. They would better know how to deal with the situation. Natalie remembered being a student at Magic Academy and going with her friends on to the beach. They used magic to pinpoint exactly where on the beach that was and bought her back to where that was.
They travelled by magical air bubble instead of by magical portal because they did not want to make things any worse than they already were. As soon as Natalie got there, she ran over to greet her friends but they had no idea who she was. The old man and the doctor just sighed. Her situation had not been solved after all.
