Thomas Fireheart is a bit of an overachiever. Master martial artist? Check. CEO of his own multinational corporation? Check. Respected mercenary for hire? Check. Powerful werepuma? Check. Wait...werepuma?
You see, outside of all those other impressive resume add-ons, Thomas is the product of generations of selective breeding and mystic enhancements overseen by his South West Indigenous Tribe. His people were engaged in such endeavors to prevent the apocolyptic doom one of their ancestors prophesied long ago. My parents told me the same thing, but really, in my case, I just turned out to be the product of a cheap IUD.
Anyway, Thomas, after being subjected to years of rituals and training, gained the power to change into a humanoid mountain lion, with incredible strength, reflexes, and all that other cool cat stuff. With these feline abilities, Thomas Fireheart became The Puma. Meow.
Puma grew bored of being a successful CEO/Kung Fu cat man and decided to, on the side, rent himself out as a merc for hire. It was in this capacity that he was hired by The Rose to kill Spider-Man. But after finding out Spidey was a stand-up guy, Puma's honor code wouldn't allow him to finish the gig.
Eventually, Puma grew to be more heroic and even joined a group of Spidey's other former villains in a team called The Outlaws. He also bought the failing Daily Bugle and helped the newspaper become successful again, all out of his perceived debt of honor to Peter Parker. He eventually sold it back to J Jonah Jameson for the sum of $1. Good kitty.
