Twas done in camera, but point taken.

I must admit though, I was pleased with the way I managed to get the lighting and exposure times right. A friend of mine has a book by a British professional portrait photographer, who set her camera on f2.8 & 1/60 second, and never changed it. I figured if the settings would work for her, they should do me as well. Turns out it was a lucky guess

mmm you should be able to use nearly any setting you like.
I usually use f8 @ 1/125.

I think it depends on the lighting. I knew I was going to have somewhat subdued lighting, so the 1/60th worked for me. I varied it a bit for some shots, but it was actually a relief to not have to screw around with the exposure settings all the time, as it just let me get on with shooting.

just remember one thing. if you're using flash with open windows you need to choose your lighting otherwise you are going to get two types of lighting.
if you increase you shutter speed and decrease the size of your aperture you cut out the tungsten light. using a flash for fill is far more pleasent to the eye than having numerous light sources.
I tend to choose daylight or flash.

I was running with three lights, following this example . I was also using a sheet on a clothes rack as one diffuser, and bouncing the light off a sheet of white foamcore board for the other. Worked pretty well
