Description
I raise my eyes to the gums overheadThat filter the sun's golden gleaming
And I think once again of a friend I once had
who's part of my bushland dreaming
- William Ricketts
Near the top of Mt Dandedong east of Melbourne is what I consider to be one of the most beautiful and serene places I've ever visited - William Ricketts Sanctuary .
William Ricketts was a deeply spiritual man who set up a sanctuary on back in the 1930s. He taught himself how to do ceramic artwork and created the most stunning set of lifelife sculptures, which are blended in with the rocks throughout his little rainforest glade.
I don't think I've ever been as moved by a place as I was when I was there last week. It's a truly stunning place, and I recommend that anyone visiting Melbourne take the time to go and visit it for a couple of hours.
