Description
One of a pair of paintings I just finished, the other is called "Faerie Foal":Originally I wasn't going to put in much of a background, but I realized that, if I wanted to get across that these are *tiny* faerie foals, some sort of background would be necessary.
Watercolor (& a touch of colored pencil), 10" x 10", 2013.

Love both of these, I am staring with my nose to the screen trying to pick up something, ANYTHING about technique to help me... lol. I don't know if I will ever get a grasp on watery media but you have a mastery of it!

Coming from you I will certainly take that as a compliment! Considering what you do with colored pencils (I honestly can't tell that some of your works aren't photographs) I think you could pick up watercolors just as well!

I actually like to use watercolours overlaid with colourpencil, it's one of my favourite methods

This is absolutely stunning work! I looooove the shading and the colors in this one, they're so vibrant and smooth! The posing, the wings, even the soft yellow light on the foal is incredibly well done! You deserve more praise for this!

It took me a LONG TIME to figure out that, sometimes (actually almost always) one most take into consideration ambient lighting and color and that, sometimes, it is necessary to put yellow (or even green or other colors) where one doesn't originally think of it. I guess it's the difference between seeing (and painting) color instead of light? I guess artists have to translate light into color, since we can't very well paint with light. Unless you're Thomas Kinkade.

Ahaha I hear that! I still haven't quite figured it out, and I most definitely can't do it as effortlessly as you! It always looks out of place, but I have to keep working at it, for sure!

Hahahahaha!!! No, certainly not a horsefly! Nasty things! I love the title; now I think I will have to make a new painting and call it a butterhorse! I don't know why I didn't think of it in the first place!
