Description
That day, as her condition worsened, Mutsuki dreamed.
It was her dream of days gone by, both distant and near.
As Princess Mutsuki strolled through the palace gardens, she came across a boy sitting atop a large garden stone, engrossed in his drawing.
"What are you drawing?" she asked.
The boy, startled by her sudden greeting, tumbled off the garden stone.
What he had been so engrossed in drawing was a picture of a yokai.
Mutsuki showed interest in the drawing.
"Is this a yokai you saw?"
"Yeah. I don’t draw anything I haven’t seen."
"Do you have others you’ve drawn?"
Mutsuki’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Taroduki pulled a few drawings from a battered satchel and showed them to Mutsuki.
This was how Mutsuki and Taroduki first met.
Taroduki was the youngest son of a mid-tier merchant family in the capital.
He was a troublemaker, constantly getting into fights.
Fed up, his parents decided to instill some refinement in him by having him serve as an attendant to one of the palace guardians.
The boy was rude, rough, and silent.
Yet over time, Mutsuki’s cheerful and carefree nature began to melt the walls around his heart.
"Someday, I’ll travel the world to study every yokai and create an illustrated compendium of them."
It was an unexpected and whimsical dream, spoken by this rough-edged boy.
Moved by his words, Mutsuki gifted him a sketchbook.
Those were peaceful days, warm and nostalgic, like flowers blooming under the gentle spring sun.
But why?
Why has this world become so… broken?
People hate each other, hurt one another, and even take lives.
In the end, is that what you seek? To wander endlessly, driven by hatred?
Taroduki...
Are you still holding on to that dream?
Or have you let it slip away, misled by the chaos of this cruel world?
I hate this world… hate it so much.
That night, Mutsuki fell into a "deep sleep."
It was like a jewel sinking to the bottom of a vast ocean…
Something neither to be held nor seen.
Was it truly there, or had it disappeared entirely?
She drifted into the dark, endless depths of the sea.
Or perhaps… she had escaped.
"Tomorrow... I'll make the flowers bloom."
The young buds continue to dream of spring.
A Harmonious World.
