Oils + collage + calligraphy on cardboard paper ~50x30 cmAs far as the texts are concerned there are several layers of them. The words running along the diagonal lines form two verses: Noir sur blanc, il y a les symboles. Reconaissez le chemin à la place des autres questions and (vertically placed) The only compass requires more than a few words but many are reluctant to talk about it. There is also one more verse composed out of the background words: delusional need to endulge in mental acrobatics to stay in the orbit of marvels. Half-legible calligraphy in between the squares is an improvisational autothematic text on the work itself.

Czerń o stu twarzach. A ujrzana za pierwszym razem wydała się jedynie baśniową infantką otwierająca nocą okna. Jest pismem, papierowym szeptem, pomrukiem drukarni, jest rtęcią, która drga pod oddechem. Wspomnieniem wczorajszej kawy. Opowiada, że mówi "czarno na białym", ale to dobra aktorka, która tutaj szyje grubymi nićmi szarość, półkłamstwa. W tej sztuce wychodzi to jednak wszystkim na dobre. Między tym, co białe i czarne, jak opium krąży zagadka. Brawa dla reżysera! Nikt nie domyślił się zakończenia, choć w trzecim akcie gest ogrodnika mówił sam za siebie. Wdzięcznie prezentują się kwadraty wypełnione pismem, poukładane między czarnymi segmentami. Mam wrażenie, że za ich wstawiennictwem 24 bloki zyskują większą spójność z obrazem - geometryzacja "Noir sur Blanc" staje się może mniej malarska, ale za to bardziej konsekwentna. Kompozycja zamknięta może wydaje mi się pardon za moje trzy grosze- z lekka zbyt poważna (nie mam na myśli bynajmniej tego, że brakuje tu czegoś "łał", dzikich węży, buchającego z zewnątrz koloru; tylko widok możnaby inaczej skadrować, uciąć w połowie ostatniego rzędu / kolumny kwadratów, zamiast roztaczać białe obramowanie z czterech stron). Dobre tło. Idzie ciekawymi ścieżkami, miejsca wycyzelowane przenikają się z płaszczyznami pełnymi przypadku i macoszego niedbalstwa - ogólny efekt bardzo na plus, tym większy, że wykonałeś to przy ograniczeniu barwy do minimum. Urok negatywu, nagatywny urok? Powodzenia : )

O, co za rozkosz czytać tak ciekawe i przemyślane słowa. Niespodziewanka też przemiła. (: Kroplą rtęci podkreśliłaś tu lekkie skojarzenia z tablicą pierwiastków, ale kiedy czerń ma sto twarzy to rzeczywiście znaczenie "czarno na białym" traci moc jednogłośnej klarowności i udaje wyrocznię. ^^ O to między innymi chodziło. Podrzuciłaś mi pomysł by spróbować geometrią pozakrzywiać czasem perspektywę - być może w kolejnych pracach. Trzy grosze widza zawsze mnie niezmiernie interesują. ^^ Bardzo dziękuję za komentarz! Pewnie dlatego, że to jeszcze z wczesnej wiosny jest. Może rzeczywiście jest w tym coś brzozowego. O! Może kiedyś zaprosić by zieleń między czerń i biel - i tak po nitce do kłębka kolorów. (good pomysł ^^) Też mam nadzieję, że mocne podłoże i werniks pomoże w konserwacji, choć tym razem zrobiłem to na grubym powlekanym kartonie więc nie powinno być takiego ryzyka jak na cienkim bristolu.

Haha. Hahahahahaha. Hahaha. You know, I'm going to be studying abroad in a few months and if what jumble of letters I throw together resemble a sentence I'll want to read the next week, I'll be thrilled. How are we supposed to compete with *THIS*?!
Just look at this thing! I mean, was it REALLY necessary to play up your incredible calligraphy (which, might I add, you displayed to stunning advantage in a previous deviation) with a refreshing take on what otherwise a pretty standard square-type sort of pattern?
Come on, Versatis. Really. Leave some talent for the rest of us.

Hahah. Until there are other artist with whom I don't know how to get into competition - you shouldn't be worried about that. ^^ And believe me, there are such people; sometimes I want to tell them exactly the same.
IMHO, shift of emphasis, eclectism and exploration is the only way the calligraphic art can go. Within the calligraphy itself and the letterforms there is not as much to say as within the combination of patterns and concepts. And I still have plenty of ideas. "Noir sur Blanc" was one of them, invented long time ago but never pushed closer to realisation. I'm happy it's finally done, and even happier to read such a comment. (:

Miło słyszeć, dzięki. Wiesz, muszę wypełnić czymś piętro w lipcu. Pomysł na coś bardziej minimalistycznego kompozycyjnie przyszedł nagle, ale gdzieś już w lutym, i długo długo zastanawiałem się jak wprowadzić nieco ruchu miedzy te kwadraty - to był powolny proces. Teraz szukam drogi do koloru, ale nie mogę znaleźć.

I have talked about this several times with a friend of mine, and I don't know what is really happening in Poland. In these latest years I have discovered such a tsunami of creativity and infinite and superior craftmanship from new polish artists... did your parents add any strange drug to your breakfasts when you were young? Because it always leaves me in complete awe.

The composition here was a real struggle. At first sight, it's simple and geometrically rigid, but to diversify it without shattering it all was a slow progress. I'm happy to read such a comment then. Thanks!

I have to say that the progress on it was quite slow. It was intended to be a sort of diagram of the dream frequency, but I abandoned the idea (I don't even recall when) - yet the sense of a journey started to dominate. I wanted to reflect it in the title, but none of those I selected (I had 6 of them ^^) seemed good enough.
Haha, some kind of Estra-Sensory Perception is working here. I'm looking forward to seeing your work - sounds very interesting. Make the most of the idea you got.

To sum it up in a few words, this is a variation on the form of book, text and handwriting, just to conjure up the feeling we get when watching the old manuscripts. This is has modern feeling though. Glad you like it; thanks for the comment!
