History: Tene was a Faunus born and raised in Vale. While not rich, she certainly never wanted for anything. Her parents did their best to give her a nice life. She was raised in a neighborhood with plenty of others to befriend, often playing with them all. She always liked being the hero in their games, fostering an interest in huntresses. She entered Signal, discovering her knack for Dust. Throughout this time, she began to hang out with a bit of the wrong crowd. She was exposed to underage drinking and sex and has experienced illegal drugs. She picked up a part-time job doing some online modeling work through Junior’s club. Her signature hat and “fur belt” hid her faunus features from the potential customers who might take offense. She played coy about showing more skin than such covers would reasonably work. In return, she received plenty of patronage. Even so, she kept her grades in a decent condition. Between her popularity at school, fans of her work, and appreciation of her scholastic ability, she was the center of a lot of attention. Boys – and some girls – took her on dates and gave presents, fans sent gifts in the mail, and some teachers even gave her preferential treatment. Despite that, it was still not enough. She wanted more fame and wealth, and she figured that would require her to be one of the best huntresses. If she wanted to be the best, then only the best school was an option. She entered Beacon Academy and found her way to Team RDDT.
Personality: Tene likes attention, and sometimes it doesn’t matter whether it’s good or bad. She puts on a basic persona of repetitive humor and plastic seduction. Love her or hate her, just make sure you look at her. Beneath that, she’s a pretty strong willed and intelligent young woman – at least when it comes to dust spells. She’s very interested in the core dust elements: fire, wind, ice, and lightning. Despite her profession, she’s far from selfless (money and fame don’t mean much when you can’t enjoy it) and will generally oppose more risky endeavors. If the chances of something succeeding aren’t too great, you can pretty much guarantee she won’t do it. She will often overreact to things, claiming they’re ruining her life.
Strength: If you can convince her to use it, her semblance is powerful. Her spells give her an impressive measure of power. She’s also good on keeping distance between her and her foes, evading attacks. The aversion to high risk endeavors makes her prepare thoroughly.
Weakness: She’s not great on close quarters fighting. Her semblance is the definition of high risk, high reward. Her personality comes with a whole mess of problems (insubordination, mostly).
Semblance: She describes it as paralysis. She can disconnect the essence of something from its body with contact. In small measures, it will make the target numb at the place of contact for an indeterminate length of time. For a small measure of their body (~10%), it usually lasts a couple minutes at worst, but the length of time can increase sharply as the percentage does. For the percent of the body rendered outside of their awareness, half of that is the chance she suffers the same effect (~5% for ~10%). The larger the area, the more it takes out of her, the higher the risk, and the longer the effects last. At 100%, she’s guaranteed to fall unconscious. Here, she claims, she and the individual spend however long they are unconscious incapable of moving, but aware. The chance of her waking up is 50% - the victim becomes a vegetable .
WEAPON
Name: Gilded Banner and Aerial Reflex
Gilded Banner Primary: An cane – but with the bottom four being dust canisters. They’d be powdered dust with pressurized gas. A trigger would be under the handle, triggering the transformation.
Gilded Banner Secondary: The shaft shortens to ~15 inches. The handle morphs slightly into a hammer with the grip becoming a pick and the other part the head. Her symbol is on the face. The canisters also shrink, pressurizing the gas with the four dusts. The trigger causes the gases to expand, extending the shaft with stunning force.
Aerial Reflex: Her high-heeled boots. Within the armored boots are green wind crystals. It fires in bursts from the heels to give her a bit of agility and movement in the air. The crystals are protected by the armor in her pants’ design.
History: Gilded Banner was made during her time at Signal Academy. It suited her sense of style and utility. Aerial Reflex was a gift from a fan when she mentioned she liked to be quick on her feet in battle. Custom made for her, the fan acquired her favorite colors and measurements and used only the highest quality materials to make them. She has had them adjusted as she’s grown.
Style: Tene moves quickly, keeping her distance. The Dust in Gilded Banner is used to fuel spells in long-range combat. Imagine things like hail, lighting storms, fire balls or gusts of wind. In this way, it functions like a staff or wand, depending on which form it is in. Aerial Reflex is used to dodge incoming attacks or quickly get on her feet if she takes a heavy hit. When opponents do get in close, she has some skill to hold them off. Gilded Banner can be used to fight like any cane could be, and she can also use the hammer for cracking some bones. The high speed extension can land some powerful precision strikes. The head of the hammer can be imbued with one of the four dust effects as well, packing a nasty surprise for the opponent. Should she decide to use it, it also serves to channel her semblance. A whack to an arm could make it go limp temporarily, or one to the head could make them go blind, deaf, and slack-jawed for a time. However, she can be overpowered, outmaneuvered, or just tired out from fighting directly like this.
Trivia: A wizard staff and wand was the inspiration for the function of her weapon. Brandy Canes (a cane with hidden liquor compartments) and a geological hammer was the inspiration for its design. The name comes from being a literal Ban Hammer when she uses her semblance at 100% and her gold color scheme.Hellbanning specifically was the inspiration for the 100% use of her semblance. Administrative and Moderator powers were the basis for her possessing great magical power and the semblance that takes away an individual’s privilege to interact with the world. Mod Green, Admin Red, OP Blue, and Reddit Gold coincidentally matched the four main dust types so that’s what she uses. Reddit Gold was the source of the color theme and her privileged status as something people aspired to – also her association w/Junior’s club via /r/lounge . She was meant to represent what reddit loves: /r/gonewild , cats, organization and effort, beating jokes into the ground, fanboy/girling, and exaggeration. Her name, Tene, is Telugu for “honey.”
