At last, I've hit a milestone as I've hit 50 rangers! To celebrate this, I decided to follow up on an idea I had a LONG time ago, by making a special ranger who has the ability to use the various colors of rangers like red, blue, etc. Using this concept has lead to the Spectral Ranger, who has the colors of the light spectrum with black and white to use in battle. I like the idea of having him not be revealed as a human and implying he's more of a spirit similar to AkaRed.I do plan on showing a color version of him to reflect how he visually changes for his 'basic' form shown here. He uses the crystal in his gauntlet by rolling it over to reflect the color he wants and thus turns into that form. I also went with a rusty color as his basic form to show a more neutral unused color for Sentai, yet have gold and dark gray to show that he's somewhat a special sentai character.

I have to say I think this is possibly one of my all time favourites of your sentai designs. The rust colour is very unique and I think helps differentiate his character from the rest of your Sentai and I do feel the gold and grey compliment the rust quite well.. His cloak is nicely done and I think it helps with the mystical, non-human angle you want to go for. I also like the "gems" (for want of a better word) on the cloak's mantle.
I am curious to see how his powers work and hope to learn more about his back story soon. I get the impression he's the kind of "mentor/leader" figure to a team of cherry picked" rangers from your various teams.

Thanks! I'm glad you approve of this ranger's design! I was a bit on the fence about using such a unique unused color but I think the rust works well. And you can call them gems if you want. There is no official term for them as of late.
I did post a Red Style last week to show the color change. I have been playing around with a story but nothing too concrete at the moment. I was planning on making a team of various rangers to center the story around. Who they are at this moment is anybody's guess!

I kinda agree with you about unused colours. I feel sticking to established ones keeps it closer to the franchise, but at the same time considering how limited it can be at times I do think rush works well in a "this is a special Special Ranger" sense like I said last time.
Maybe they could be some kind of Soul Gem, allowing him to be powered by "The Soul of the ___ Rangers" although that may veer a bit too close to the Infinity Gems.
Sounds like you and I have had a similar idea then for something I've dropped hints at before. I'm curious to see which ones you chose.

I think there should be a fair balance for the 'team standards' of sentai, similar to what I've been actively seeking with my sentai teams. I tried to do new concepts that haven't been done before, yet nothing too extreme that it wouldn't feel like a sentai team. To be honest, the sixth ranger is always the hardest to plan as finding 'what makes them special' is often the most painful part.
I have a handful of personal favorites, but I'll more than likely make a 12 man roster of two reds, two blues, etc. I'm curious on your faves as well.

As daft as this may sound, I seem to keep forgetting that the sixth ranger needs to be special. I know they tend to have their own morphers and something special about them in the team (Gai can combine keys/has a super form, Ucchi could manipulate thunder) but I feel once the initial "Look, it's the siixth ranger!" has worn off they tend to become "one of the crowd" in my eyes.
All I'm willing to say is so far there are eight members - Red, Yellow, Blue, Pink, Black, Green, White and Silver. For some of them I may toy around with weapons and powers based off some of out discussions, if that is OK with you. I will admit that the pose I had in mind for the Black ranger may get scrapped in favour of an action based one and to be honest I may look at giving all of them a similar pose (this idea has JUST occurred to me I might add). I'll know "more" once I get though my current block.

I've always seen the sixth ranger as 'another aspect to said team's motif.' After they have been in the team for a bit, you tend to forget that specialty they bring to the table and with the recent overload of rangers past six, I think their importance has dropped a bit.

Yeah I can see what you mean. For example with Ucchi you had the initial concept of him trying to accept the other Kyoryugers but after a while he didn't seem to be as different (for lack of a better word). I am keen to see how Akira pans out as the clips I've seen him in seem to give him a more mature, grounded vibe than the rest of the team.
And I will do. I did start some sketches for Black, Pink and White but I have yet to do any more with them.
