Mavis — Description

As usually happens I was stuck by the sudden desire to draw one of my Beastkillers Needed characters, and so I did. Finally a ref for Mavis, the mantis I animated almost four years ago.
A bit of Mavis' character/story below.

Mavis is a very cheerful - if not, a bit... casually macabre - mantis. Her love life was a total mess when she was young... there was Basil, Parsley, Annatto... And don't even get her started on Fennel. But then one fateful day she met Mint, and it was practically true love at first sight.
They're two peas in a pod, always together at every opportunity. Well... they were... for one dreadful day, Mavis watched as some Beasts stole her husband away, powerless to stop to them. And he's been gone ever since.
She truly misses him so much... his smile, his voice, his kindness... Not to mention dinners just haven't been the same without him.
Mavis is unwavering in the belief that Mint is still alive. Beasts have stolen away other animals too, all without any signs of remains. And while many have given up hope for those missing, Mavis steadfastly believes they still live - somewhere out there, guarded by Beasts. And one day surely, a Beastkiller would finally come along and save them all.
Well... despite her optimism, the world continued to decay, and Beastkillers remained absent. A stray Beast caught Mavis off guard at her quaint little home on the outskirts of the Insect Kingdom, and killed her.
Yet, Mavis' story didn't end there. Against the odds, she was found and revived with new ability. She sees it as her prayers finally being answered. Sure, Mavis didn't expect she'd be the Beastkiller! But things have a funny way of working out sometimes. And she's very sure things will work out in the end.

Writing this all at a very late time for me (and uploading it soon after) because I may not be able to upload this during the day like I'd prefer - and I'm too impatient to wait for the next day.
So, I have a feeling the writing might be wonky if not typo-ridden. Will reread it and adjust when I can later.
