..so my first 'oh god, hate!" monster in Fallout 3 were the Super Mutant brutes, then came the Yao Guai, followed by Deathclaws.Today, I encountered my first Ghoul Reaver.

After having my party slaughtered over and over by one, I thought I'd pull a sneaky move and go in, alone, with my missile launcher. How that all went down, well.. I had to quickly sketch up this comic to illustrate the scene, and my feelings throughout XD
4 missiles, and most of my assault rifle ammo later (and a good chunk of healing items, too), it was killed. Butch actually came from his waiting spot to help save my sorry ass, too.
..and that was after switching the game to very easy. Fail(just like my train/missile launcher drawings XD)

I got real pissed while trying to fight through 3 of those stupid reavers to get the lincolns repeater rifle. I know now it couldve been an easy fast grab but it didnt know where it was

The Gauss Rifle with high crit works pretty well, since each crit shot has a knock back effect giving you time to load and aim again by the time they get back up.

my suggestion is a handful of gernades and a several shotgun blasts all to the reavers face

Best way to kill Reavers (or any other ultra-strong enemies): Mysterious Stranger. If you don't have the time to shoot him once with a pistol in VATS until he pops up, cripple their legs with the dart gun, then VATS away until your Shady friend shows up.
Alternatively, use Console commands to get MS's own gun, which never breaks down, and functions like a normal .44 magnum, only with no scope, and a SHIT TON of damage.
...or just plant a pile of bottlecap mines, and aggro the thing.

I think the Reavers just eat missiles. Β I haven't yet found an easy way to kill them, apart from hosing em down with the gatling laser....

Aim for the legs. Takes out their mobility by a ton.

I don't think your Big Guns skill was high enough. Maybe you should have used a Fatman.Β

I think the reaver should of had much lower health (somewhere between supermutant brute and master) but would have the DR of metal armour (cause they are wearing metal armour, that way Reavers won't be so OP but still a challenge to fight

First time I seen one of these baddies. I was sneaking through a sewer. And I was like "sweet free exp!" Next thing I knew I was dead. Live and learn. I guess

The same thing happened to me (with Butch and Dogmeat, too), my first reaver and the only thing I learned is that ... I hate reavers !

I've got pretty much the same scene with me and Charon a few times.
The only way to kill them rather fast is to place a hell lots of mines, this doesn't only slow them down, it's also rather effective...
After that I normally simply run away and throw mines.

First time I encountered these, I died. And died nd died and died. I then installed sought out the Experimental MIRV and spent my almost one million caps (I'd clocked over a hundred hours by the time I installed the dlc that adds reavers) in Flak and Shrapnels on mini nukes. That puppy sorts them out good - eat 8 mini nukes at once, zombie dude...

my first reaver was in new vegas, i killed it with a simple laser RCW, so when i finally got broken steel and point lookout i was all like "bring it" and then i died, and died and died and died, and when i thought i could die no more, I KEPT FRIGGEN DIEING!!!!!

Thanks to this comic, I knew to totally freak out when I saw my first Reaver. It killed me then devoured my throat ^^ -.-

Heh heh heh.... Try playing New Vegas, and install both Project Nevada and Requiem to the Capital Wasteland (This mod allows you to go to The capital Wasteland from the Mojave, and do all of Fallout 3's Missions as the courier while still playing New Vegas, it just makes Fallout 3 a DLC for the game!) mods, get to level 30 while in the Mojave, then go to DC to do the missions there. Almost every ghoul you encounter underground will either be a Glowing One, or a Reaver, makes the game extremely hard but fun! ^_^

I did the same thing but with a fucking shotgun lol sorry about my language but I truly hate these enemies lol and I was on very easy mode when I try killing them >< and then I vowed every time I see one I run away instead of fighting them

Shoulda used a Combat Shotgun. Sneak crits with that thing kill EVERYTHING.
