Description It would be a BOUNCY CASTLE of course!

Well, yes. The idea looked a whole lot better in my head, it seems to have turned into a bit of a monster now that I've turned it into a rather horrific piece of fanart. But doesn't it look fun!

For those who are wondering 'WTF', Gormenghast is my favouritest book of all time. It's a 'Gothic Fantasy' about a great big castle filled with a population of complete nutters and was written around 1950 by a clever bloke called Mervyn. Go and read it please...or just be content that I've drawn a pair of snappily dressed goths on a bouncy castle.

To those who do know, either from the books or the BBC telly series (which I still refuse to watch)...I am very sorry to have created this. Peake would be turning in his grave. Pikey and Few as cartoons is obviously not going to be a great success is it. The 'crimson dress' has become a tomato coloured travesty and it's just not cricket.

My very dear models from the book:
Lady Fuchsia, not the brightest crayon in the box, wears the same dress for about 30 years.
Steerpike, enjoys taking his kit off, burning things and killing people. With a catapault. Yes.
Gertrudes Cat. It's a cat.

I love Gormenghast and you should too.

Amazing and hilarious! Artolevi's right, I can see this is part of some bizarre ritual of Gormenghast XD I've read the books so many times now they're falling apart... and Fuchsia has always been a favourite of mine. Apropos of nothing, you're one of the only artists I've seen to actually get her skin colour right. It really matters to me for some reason. I guess it's tempting to portray her as a pasty goth, but in my eyes she's more than a stereotype.

"Her need for love had never been fulfilled; her love for others have never been suspected, or wanted. Rich as a dusky orchard, she had never been discovered. Her green boughs had been spread, but no travellers came and rested in their shade nor tasted the sweet fruit."

Fuchsia's a dusky beauty! It matters to me too, I guess I feel so close to the book that it really irks me. Too many people try to make her into the goth ideal, completely loses her appeal.

Anyway Steerpike's pasty enough for both of them.

I could actually see this being a solemn ritual they'd have to keep.

Haha, that would be brilliant! I can imagine Barquentine strutting around yelling "BOUNCE! BOUNCE!". XD

I LOVE Gormenghats trilogy with all my heart!! I roared with laugher and I cried out loud with some scenes, I fell in love with Dr.Prunesquallor, I felt utterly fascinated with Steerpike twisted intelligence and rebelry... It's one of my favourite readings of all time.
And I have my own version of Fuschia [link] and Steerpike [link]

Me too, there needs to be more Gormenghast love in the world!

Dr. Prune is impossible not to love isn't he? XD And man I read the bit where Steerpike jumped into the lake one too many times, aaaaah... Hehe, it's nice to know it's not totally unknown!

COR BLIMEY your versions are good!

There're many people that are Gormenghast admirers but it's a small fandom compared with others, eg. Harry Potter.
In Spain isn't very known. I guess that's because Mr. Peake is less popular than other fantasy writers and the BBC series hasn't been shown on tv.

I do love Gormenghast! I've just seen this and laughed out loud, then giggled for a while longer.
Don't fret, I think Peake would have done the same.
I love the cat and its expression. And how faithful to his descriptions you've been. Mostly I like how it is very bad and very good at the same time!
Excellent fun

Hurrah, glad you like it and LOLed.

I love the cat too. Gertrude's cats need love, they get used as missiles and all sorts.

Best line ever.

Hehe, I'm really glad you like it, it's good to know I'm not the only Gormenghast fan out there!

I love Few too! The comments on her clothing and intellect are strictly tongue-in-cheek.

Cheers for the comment!

Um... you're crazy.

But seriously, I think Peake would just be chuffed that you liked his work so much. Gormenghast's a curious thing, isn't it? Generally you either hate it, or become totally obsessed by it.

And serious picture or not, that's still one of the best Fuchsias I've ever seen.

Thankyou very much, nice commentary hehe.

No, but I'm dying to read it. I've searched many a bookstore for 'Peake's Progress' and have never found it.

Horaaaaaaaaaaaaay, you MUST!

That's pretty much how I picture them in my head, but you won't see them on a bouncy castle in the book. Darn.

I still like the BBC version, no matter what you say. XD However, that does not stop it from being one of my favourite books (alas, not my favourite; I like Oscar Wilde too much).
This is ingenius. It makes me cackle. It makes me happy. It makes me talk in short, repetitive sentences.
I love gaunt, very broody, scary Steerpike, with his wonderful swordstick, and Fuchsia's beloved dress, along with that mass of hair on her head.
And Gertrude's cat. It is a cat. Good heavens!
I like also how very vibrant it is.

Yay, I'm so very glad you like it and it makes you happy, thankyou!

I may have to watch it one day, the curiousity is starting to kill me... Aaah glad you like them, was lots of fun making Pike look slightly ill and seeing how much hair I could get on Few's head.

Indeed I'd be worried if it wasn't a cat!
