Description When you've all but lost your humanity, it's nice to know that you're not alone...

A pair of male Skoy (Dermocyon naaldlooshii) hang out together.  They are a sociable species of posthuman that live in small packs.

I designed this creature a long time ago, and subsequently re-imagined it for a now cancelled Posthuman Zoo project.  Despite said project no longer continuing, I loved these guys way too much to leave them in the past.  I don't know what I'll do with them, but I'm sure I can figure out something eventually.  They have very variable skin tones, with the individual on the left displaying some mottling/freckles.  But those details must be boring, because his friend is yawning.

Ahh, this makes me remember Dixon's Man After Man, heh heh. A good deal of the posthumans in that book were awfully creepy though.

Yeah there were some really weird, freaky ideas in that book.  This guy was more inspired by some of the designs done by Nemo Ramjet, and even some mythological creatures (The scientific name of this creature; Dermocyon naaldlooshi is based off of the Skin-Walker of Native American culture).

Heh, I actually haven't really fleshed out their backstory, but I would assume they live far in the future.

In a sense, kinda. The dog-like appearance is due mostly to convergence.

Hi
I remember these guys, but you've definitely improved since the last time you drew them, their heads look like they are better proportioned compared to their body^^
You said they had variable skin tones, what types of colours are most common, just out of curiosity
Also are their back legs digitigrade? They appear to be but I just wanted to check.
I really like their faces, they have quite a unique look about them

King-Edmarka In reply to PencilPavlova [2015-10-14 14:40:37 +0000 UTC]

Hey there!

Thanks a bunch!  Their skin tones vary between flesh colored, light salmon pink, grey, beige, and mottled; like the one seen here.  And yes, their back legs are digitigrade.

PencilPavlova In reply to King-Edmarka [2015-10-15 01:02:03 +0000 UTC]

No problem
Cool! It's always nice when there is some natural variations between individuals (or not so natural in their case)
Ah,I though so I just wanted to be sure^^

HUBLERDON [2015-10-14 00:32:08 +0000 UTC]

So......they made a zoo of post human creatures, presumably by genetic engineering them?

Thats kind of sick.

Anyway, cool drawing. Looks good!

King-Edmarka In reply to HUBLERDON [2015-10-14 00:40:11 +0000 UTC]

In the case of the scrapped series; yes.  Anything involving posthumans usually ends up because of sick experimentation.

And thanks!

I wish people would be more creative with Posthumans....humanity's evolution can go in a LOT more directions than just back to an animal state!

Why not terraforming colonists that modify themselves to adapt to the world? Why not people who try to improve themselves to the farthest extent possible? People who splice themselves with DNA of animals as a cultural movement?

That would be cool!

There was another concept I did a while back:  kingedmarka.deviantart.com/art…

But there will be more Posthumans on the way!  I guarantee it.

And thanks!  Very flattering of you to say.

"No problemó" as the terminator would say. come to think of it, i was wondering if there's even such thing as a technologically advanced race of posthumans.

LordofGorillaCheeks [2015-10-13 20:12:55 +0000 UTC]

This is an amazing, original design, but can you tell me how we Homo sapiens could evolve into so many different forms, all the while with many radiations actually losing inteligence? You would think that such high intelligence would be incredibly beneficial. I'm not complaining or whining about spec evo post human projects, I'm just truely curious as to how this could happen (and why, seeing as how humans within civilaiztion wouldn't neccesarily evolve so drastically).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

King-Edmarka In reply to LordofGorillaCheeks [2015-10-13 20:23:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

In most of these Posthuman projects, Posthumans haven't naturally evolved from Homo sapiens, rather, they are more than often genetically altered (whether it be by a malicious alien race, or by Humans themselves varies with the series).  In this creature's case, they've been genetically altered.  However, in 's series, mankind has been reduced to planktonic creatures that over the course of millions of years re-evolved naturally.

Thanks for the info! That's a very original idea that actually makes sense. Do you plan on making anymore post-humans?

Yep, you can expect to see more posthumans in the future!  I've had some interesting designs that I'd like to see come to fruition.  I had this Posthuman concept from a while back too:  kingedmarka.deviantart.com/art…

LordofGorillaCheeks In reply to King-Edmarka [2015-10-13 21:31:30 +0000 UTC]

Good ^^. I like this idea already. I'm always a sucker for spec evo. So what's the story behind the creature that you just linked?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

King-Edmarka In reply to LordofGorillaCheeks [2015-10-13 21:34:18 +0000 UTC]

Another genetically altered creature;  designed for a Plesiosaur-like niche.  Both this creature and the ones above were originally designed for a project about a Posthuman Zoo of sorts, but the project has been discontinued.  I really like these designs though, so I'm sure I'll use them for something in the future.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LordofGorillaCheeks In reply to King-Edmarka [2015-10-13 21:40:18 +0000 UTC]

Cool. I really love this idea. A possible story line to a post human project could be of a far off distant species of sentient being that eventually gets so technologicaly advanced that they begin cloning extinct species. It would be in the same fashion of Jurassic Park, along with all of the awful mistakes that come along with cloning an animal that only has 5-60% of it's original DNA. The remaining DNA could be filled in by other animals (living or extinct). Weird things like Plesiosaur humans could easily be a thing if a human and other species' DNA could be altered together.

King-Edmarka In reply to LordofGorillaCheeks [2015-10-13 21:47:55 +0000 UTC]

Funny thing too is, the name of the project was known as "Homoscenic Park", and was styled quite like Jurassic Park (though the park was developed by humans as well).  But I certainly like your idea.
