Description
Well, a few weeks ago, I was talking with Jonatan on MSN, and I got into how much I love cockpit views in aircraft, race cars, etc. and the mood struck me to do a couple in-cockpit shots of two of my SF: G pilots in the Raider cockpit, starting with Marcus. It’s a low-angle shot with the instrument panel “removed”…otherwise, you wouldn’t see much more than some wires and Marcus’s knee. Harness arrangement is loosely based on Russian practice…mixed with race car practice (the latch, and the color…Takata green, apparently.) The near ship is a Marli Corvette (Marcus, watch Eight, I think that AAA Gun’s pointing at you…) and the far ship is meant to be a smaller Royal Zonessian Navy craft…but I didn’t use any reference, so if it doesn’t really look like any of your ships, Jon, that’s probably why. The Fighter off Marcus’s wing is an Arwing…the yellow handle between the knees is to eject.
I know a couple guys might say that his helmet looks a bit like that in Battlestar Galactica. In fact, (despite having only seen short clips,) That was probably partial inspiration for this helmet type. His ears are laid back inside there hence the lack of the ear-points some people draw…easier to draw, easier to manufacture, and the headphones clip on to the ears, anyway…that, and that small patch of his body isn’t exposed if the cabin depressurizes or he has to eject. He’s also wearing a tail-bag, to make sure that his tail isn’t exposed: that’s what’s next to his leg. Moving back to the helmet, there’s a green stripe on the side for displaying HUD info on the visor. Maybe I should have shaded the visor, but I didn’t really want to. You can also see the reason behind the metal neck-ring…sealing surface for the helmet. The oxygen hose connects to his seatback, which serves as the main slowing/space maneuvering agent in an ejection.
Otherwise, I’m really proud of this, though Marcus’s hand is an absolute mess. I think this is my new featured work. :3

The angle on this is well done, good amount of detail on the picture.

Thanks. Interior views of aircraft and racing vehicles are kind of something I have an interest in. This pic's old as dirt, though, working full-time means I don't really have time to draw anymore.

Of course, no problem; I've never been very good at dynamic perspectives like that and that's why it caught my eye.
I'm sure you'll find time sooner or later, sometimes you have to get through a bit of real life drudgery to get to the point where you can do what you want again; I hope you're able to return to it in the future.

I've been sketching lately, but I also have other hobbies (roleplaying, vehicle models, a 1971 VW Beetle) that take up my time. Also need to find a better scanner, as the all-in-one I have doesn't connect as well as it used to.

Ah ok, yeah it can be hard to balance time between different hobbies; though as long as the time spent is time enjoyed then it was not wasted. I'd say just make sure you're doing what you do because you enjoy it, and not because you feel you're obligated to out of regret.
Hopefully you find a better scanner too, I've never had good luck with printers or scanners.

...this is alt-canon, anyway, and really old.

In this universe, he was in the military anyway, so that sort of shenanigan wouldn't have been tolerated - at all - anyway.

I really love the perspective on this- it's very dramatic. That other ship in the window is a nice touch too!
Great work!

*Whistle*, this is a good one. I haven't been able to make a shot like this one so far. Well done.
