Evasive — Description

Let this be a warning for anyone interested in scientific illustrations:
There once was a time when I knew what nebula this was.
That was a long time ago, when the picture of it existed right in front of me and I (somewhat callously) told myself that it would be easy to find again.
Had this been an image of the entirety of one of the more famous nebulas, this might be true.
It is not.
This is a close up of a tiny detail.
That much I can remember.
This is the time for ghost stories.
And the reference image that I used when I painted this, has shown itself to be about as evasive as a ghost.
Tell that around the camp fire.
The story of the disappearing nasa-photo.
So what is the moral of the story here?
What can you learn from my mistake?
If you plan to write about the motive of your work, make sure to note down what you painted.
That way you will not be left with “uuh, it is a nebula I guess”.
