Harthen Guide — Description
All the knowledge that has been gathered through the ages of Elwan regarding the harthen species.

I used Nathyn and Jomeiah mostly because I wanted to show how harthen can have normal human colors as well as a wide variety of many other colors. Now that I think about it I probably should have used Chris instead of Nathyn cuz he's more colorful, but oh well too late.

Okay harthen are just another species of humanoid, not cat/dog-people. Like elves, they are slim, very strong, and very intelligent, and like gnomes and dwarves, they are short. In height, they usually range between four feet and four and a half feet tall, but there have been a few rare occasions where they've reached six feet. THey also run about as fast as elves and can jump great distances. They are very agile creatures and can fit in places one would never expect them to fit in, just like the cats they relate to. Also like cats, they have the ability to see in the dark.

Their ears and tails are the main indicators of their emotions. Tails will tense up and twitch depending on which emotion the harthen is feeling. When they feel negative emotions, their ears will lower and pull closer to their head instead of just hanging normal. If they are very happy or surprised, their ears will perk up and unfold.

When a female harthen becomes pregnant, the baby generally stays within the womb for nine months, similar to human females. Like most mammals, the baby grows inside the womb, rather than an egg.

As children, harthen are more prone to have their animalistic qualities. Many chew on chew toys, chase lasers, or get distracted by shiny objects. Sometimes these qualities last throughout their lives but in most cases they vanish when the harthen comes of age.

Harthen live for very long periods of time. It was once thought that they lived forever like vampires. It is possible that they do. None have ever died of old age, so it can't be told if they do grow old at some point or not. They normally remain infants for the first ten years of their life, then become adolescents at fifty, then reach adulthood by one hundred.

It is because of this long lifespan that the species is so rare. Because they live so long, they do not feel the need to hurry up and reproduce. Their rarity also plays a role in this, for many of them live out their entire lives without ever seeing another harthen besides their own family. Like most humanoids, they prefer not to mate with close relatives.

Harthen come in a wide variety of colors for their skin, hair, and eyes. Some have several different colors to them, having one hair color, two eye colors, and three skin colors, etc. When enough are gathered together, they can look like a living rainbow.

If a harthen should be bitten by a vampire and become one, not much about the harthen changes. They grow a set of fangs, much like humans do. They need blood to survive, but are capable of eating the same foods they did before. Instead of transforming into a bat, they can sprout retractable wings. Like most vampires, they become very sensitive to sunlight and heat.

No information has been acquired regarding the werewolf virus. It has been thought that harthen don't turn into werewolves when bitten by one, but it could just be that harthen are able to escape them relatively easy and have never been bitten.
