is what I meant

I definitely have! Love that show, man. The Flash is shaping up to be a great show, too.

If Flash keeps going the way it's been going, it may become my favorite show!

I hope the creators don't drag out Iris learning who "The Streak" is, and I love what they did to cover up his voice.

TBH, I was hoping they'd pull a Green Lantern and have her recognize him anyway

What do you think of the Dawn of Justice production so far? It sounds like Nolan and Snyder might pull this off!

Man, Snyder has yet to put out a movie that I really dislike. I have complete faith in him. At worst, BvS is going to look artistic and beautiful; at best, it will blow minds. To me, Watchmen is the best comic book movie ever made (Avengers being a close second), so all he has to do is top himself, and he may do it with the Oscar-winning writer he's working with.

I was shocked at the over-the-top violence in Watchmen, but subsequent viewings let me see it's an okay movie.

The 300 films are by far my favorites from him, and of course I loved the Nolan trilogy.

Rises deserved better.

Yeah, Watchmen was more violent than the comic, but the film was shot with such an artistry! You've got to make sure you're watching the FULL version, though, with the Black Freighter cartoon cut into the movie. For me, there is no other version of it. The big reason that I favor Watchmen over 300 is it's faithfulness to the concepts and characters. I don't know if you've ever read the comic, but the Spartans are not supposed to be as nice to each other as is portrayed in the film (although I understand why they did it...it's hard to push an action movie like this with the kind of hard, cold character that Leonidas was in the comics). Visually, though, Leo was dead-on, which is Zack's real stregnth and the reason that I'm so psyched that he's doing these movies. We're FINALLY going to get a Batman that resembles the one we know. As good as the Dark Knight movies were (and they were AWESOME of course), I always felt like Bruce was too happy. He was always cracking jokes with Alfred and Lucius, which is weird to me. He wasn't any smarter than the average Joe, and he didn't seem overly disciplined, much less obsessive like Batman should be. Rises is another great example of the disparity between the movies and comics. Bane was pretty cool in Rises, but he wasn't really Bane. Bane is from Central America. He uses Venom to get bigger. He's not some smart British guy that works out and is a good fighter.

I'm all for purity, but feel like the Nolan films had a much more important purity than the Burton/Schumacher series did: spirit.

Even the 1989 Bat-film wasn't completely true to the comics, what with the machine guns on the batmobile and Batman tossing a dude down from the bell tower.

The Nolan films very much captured the spirit of the bronze age Batman, who as you've noticed isn't nearly as obsessed or versatile as today's Dark Knight. He also drew inspiration from Jeph Loeb's work, which also tends to use a more "pedestrian" Batman.

We haven't seen that sort of dedication to the ideas and spirit of the comics since the 1966 TV series (which I've been enjoying on Blu-Ray), and it's great that Nolan had the sensibilities to grasp the importance of that. While I do think that Bane should have been a little closer identical to the comics' version, the film's Bane had the essentials: imprisoned because of his father, grew up in a prison, was obsessed with taking Batman's city from him, and fell in love with Talia (who got screwed by the movie in every sense of the word).

Bruce's capabilities in the film were much more realistic than what he does in the comics. There isn't enough time in the day to learn all that comic Bats has, and Nolan reacted accordingly.

Hey, I totally agree on all counts! I know that Nolan was trying to bring a more realistic Batman to the screen, and after the crapfest known as Batman and Robin, I was all for that. I'm just really excited that, now that we've seen a more practical Batman to counter the over-the-top movies that came before, we can have something closer to the comics, the animated series, or the Arkham games.

I think the Arkham-verse Batman would make an excellent CGI film series!

Assault on Arkham already laid the groundwork, too!

Have you watched Atop the Fourth Wall by Linkara? It's a hilarious look at bad comics.
