Now that the Super Smash Bros. Direct Stream has taken place and revealed a boatload of new information surrounding the game, I figured I would update my roster!

Because the layout is extremely different than any other you'd find on DeviantArt, allow me to explain. Characters in the top-left in blue borders are starter playable characters and those with red are unlockable playable characters. Any character surrounded by a yellow border is a Pokeball Pokemon / Assist Trophy. Bosses are against the far right of the image, bordered in red.

55 Characters?
I understand how big of a jump this is from both the Brawl roster and from the previous roster which I had uploaded. I firmly believe that we will be getting more characters than expected. Sakurai has been revealing quite a lot of characters - after all, five characters in one day is a HUGE deal. On top of this, Sakurai is also working with Namco Bandai, meaning more overall help and less time needed to work single-handedly on characters, stages, music, etc. I don't quite know if 55 is too high, but 50 seemed normal to me, especially considering how many characters we've received previously from installment to installment. Plus, previous transformation characters now count as "separate" characters, meaning they're not really "new", but they take up a slot.

Ridley?!
Let me explain. Sakurai clearly teased us during the Stream. However, I immediately knew that the Ridley shown was not normal Ridley simply judging by the wing itself. After closer examination, it is actually Neo Ridley's tail. Thus, Ridley could still be a playable character. Do I want it to be? No, but I think it makes sense for it to be.

Mewtwo AND Lucario?

Believe it or not, I do have good reason for this. Mewtwo and Lucario were both advertised to an almost excessive point during the period before Pokemon X/Y's release. Mewtwo has two additional forms now, and was advertised heavily for X/Y, making him relevant, was in Smash previously, is highly requested and was a part of the Forbidden Seven in Brawl. As for Lucario, he plays a role in the main storyline of the newest Pokemon game, and I attempted to cut very few characters from Brawl so he maintained his spot. Plus, he is now confirmed as a playable character.

Wonder Red? Isaac? Shulk? Little Mac?

The answer to these are simple - the newest Smash Bros has a cartoony vibe to it, much less grungy than Brawl did. As all of these characters have almost "toon"-like designs, they would fit much better in the newest installment. On top of that, all are from recently revived franchises (Golden Sun, Punch-Out!!) or new franchises (Xenoblade and Wonderful 101).

Why cut R.O.B.?
R.O.B. was an easy removal. I never felt as though he fit, I've never played with anyone who has ever used him, and I don't feel as though it's even worth it to bring him back. He'd make more sense as a generic enemy to me than anything else.
