Description "My name could have been Kristal.

My name could have been Josh.

I could have invented a cure for cancer.

I could have been the first female president.

I would have had brothers and sister.

I would have been the first grandbaby.

I could have been an amazing dancer.

I could have been on broadway.

I could have gone to Harvard.

I could have gone to Oxford.

I would have loved to bring world peace.

I would have opened a huge orphanage in Africa.

I could have brought peace in Korea.

I could have ended communism in China.

But my life ended shortly.

I was burned alive.

I loved my mommy very much.

But she didn't love me.

She didn't think I was worth the sacrifice it takes to be a mommy.

I died when I was 10 weeks old.

I didn't know what was happening.

It began to get very hot, and I couldn't breathe.

I began burning alive.

Then as I was being born, I saw my mommy, for the first and last time ever.

The only thing I heard her say was that she was glad to be rid of me.

The abortion procedure is done with a saline acidic solution injected into the womb of the mother. the solution than rises the temperature of the fluids inside of the mothers womb and heats up the babies body. as this takes place, it also burns the baby while it is still alive. as the baby inhales the hot womb water polluted by the saline acid, the baby's inards are burned causing the heart to stop. One in every 300 abortion attempts fail, and the baby is prematurely born and burned ALIVE.

Whether you admit it or not abortion is wrong there is no such thing as pro choice, the baby doesn't get a choice, and you are taking a human life.

Your actions are disgusting."

Oh please. You want to hear my reply?

I could have gone to college

I could have been someone

I could have had a family

Instead I sit outside in rags

Clutching this wretched beast to my chest

I leave him in the trash cans when I go out to sell myself

And come back sore and bruised

All because...

He touched me, he held me, he hurt me.

He left me with this beast

And papa said "don't kill it"

Then papa said "get out"

Our actions are for our own saftey, and for women who have been hurt by rapists and even their own family, those sick men who shouldn't be uncles or fathers or brothers. Abortion procedures have gotten safer and better over the years. And lets not forget that there are already laws preventing a "baby" (let's be factual and call it a "fetus", because that's what it is) from being aborted past a certain age. They haven't developed enough to be able to inhale anything. In fact, if you knew ANYTHING about birth, a baby's first breath occurs when he or she is BORN, OUT OF THE WOMB. Otherwise he or she would be inhaling his or her OWN PLACENTA in the womb. Ooh, another great idea; different, safe, TRUE ways to abort! Let me list:

Morning After Pill (MAP): within 72 hours of sexual intercourse (discharges fetus from womb, like a period would)

RU486, Mifepristone: within 4 to 7 weeks after LMP (same as MAP)

Early Vacuum Aspiration: within 7 weeks after LMP (The cervical muscle is stretched with dilators (metal rods) until the opening is wide enough to allow the abortion instruments to pass into the uterus. A hand held syringe is attached to tubing that is inserted into the uterus and the fetus is suctioned out)

Suction Curettage: within 6 to 14 weeks after LMP (the doctor opens the cervix with a dilator (a metal rod) or laminaria (thin sticks derived from plants and inserted several hours before the procedure). The doctor inserts tubing into the uterus and connects the tubing to a suction machine. The suction pulls the fetus' body apart and out of the uterus. One variation of this procedure is called Dilation and Curettage (D&C). In this method, the doctor may use a curette, a loop-shaped knife, to scrape the fetal parts out of the uterus.)

Dilation and Evacuation (D&E): within 13 to 24 weeks after LMP (In this procedure, the cervix must be opened wider than in a first trimester abortion. This is done by inserting laminaria a day or two before the abortion. After opening the cervix, the doctor pulls out the fetal parts with forceps. The fetus' skull is crushed to ease removal.)

Dilation and Extraction (D&X): from 20 weeks after LMP to full-term (Also known as Partial-birth Abortion, this procedure takes three days. During the first two days, the cervix is dilated and medication is given for cramping. On the third day, the woman receives medication to start labor. After labor begins, the abortion doctor uses ultrasound to locate the baby's legs. Grasping a leg with forceps, the doctor delivers the baby up to the baby's head. Next, scissors are inserted into the base of the skull to create an opening. A suction catheter is placed into the opening to remove the skull contents. The skull collapses and the baby is removed.)

The last two exist. I have never known a woman to have gone through D&X (or even D&E) unless she was about to die from the birth (problems like this do occur, like high blood pressure.)

So know the facts and stop listening to so-called "Pro-Life" propaganda.

You know, you are only thinking about the negative side of this.
Yes, i dont agree that women should use abortion as birth control,
but what if you are a 12 year old and you were raped?!?!? 12 year olds should NOT have to undergo the life of being a mother that early, they would never be able to be a kid.
I mean excuse me but that's bullshit, everyone should have the right to chose.
No matter what!

That... is so horrifying...

But isn't RU486 an abortifacient? And don't those basically do exactly what systemofastef? I find it a little surprising that you wouldn't list how those two drugs even work.

And, abortions because of rape are incredibly rare, and if the mother did not want to keep the child, she could offer him/her up for adoption. Plus, I find it hard to believe that a parent would force their daughter to keep their baby and then force her out the house.

'Fetus' = 'baby' in latin for one thing

and thanks for describing the 'safe and painless' methods of abortion. Makes my job easier. All I have to do is tell you why it's SO wrong. Did you know that the fetus can feel pain when it's being ripped apart? It has a brain and central nervous system and it can definitely FEEL it's arms and legs being ripped off. Mm hhm sounds like a grand ol time. Completely safe. Oh and the mothers who are traumatized for the rest of their lives feeling depressed and suicidal for reasons that they can't explain must love your poem too. Speaking of which, only 0.8 percent of abortions in the united states are performed because of rape. The other 99.2 percent are performed out of convenience. Because the mother decided to have CONSENSUAL sex. It's not the 'fetus'" fault that the mother doesn't think she can take care of it, or that she's too embarrassed. There are thousands of help-centers and free clinics out there to help mothers like that. Killing a fetus is really not the right answer. Especially since it is indeed a human, and we've all decided that killing other humans is wrong. What makes a fetus any different? Location? Size? So we can kill people if they are small and in a specific spot? I dunno man, seems like flawed logic to me.

"are performed out of convenience"
Most abortions aren't had for "convenience." There's usually a genuine reason behind it -- they aren't going to be able to take care of it, their own health is at risk, they have their own lives going on (school, jobs) and a baby would destroy all of that.

It may not be the fetus's fault, but it isn't necessarily the mother's. But on top of that, if you're forcing that baby to be born, even if the clinics are helping, you've just forced a child onto a mother who doesn't want it. That baby ends up growing up miserably, and pregnancy has been turned into a punishment because of that.

A fetus is different because that's what it is -- a fetus. It's not a baby. Most abortions are done in the first trimester, during which the fetus can't think. It can't survive without its mother, either -- it's a parasite. And a woman should be able to say, "I don't want this parasite feeding off my body anymore." It only survives because it's taking away from HER, and she doesn't want to give anymore.

Harsh, yes, but it fits the definition. Obviously if the parent wants the child, then it's not parasitic. But the fetus feeds off the mother and is completely dependent on her -- it can't live on its own -- and doesn't give anything in return.

above-beyond97 In reply to blazikensweety [2010-12-24 02:28:26 +0000 UTC]

I know what parasite is. Though it really isn't no matter the deffinition. It's a child depending on its mother to care for it until it is ready to live without her.

When I first started to read this I didn't know you were quoting and I thought that was the piece. And I have to say it's pretty disgusting and close minded isn't it?

The whole thing about "I could have been..." you could apply to every time a woman has a period! And so every 9 months a woman would have to have a baby from the age of 14 in order to find out if one of her kids could be the next Mozart?

The last two lines of your poem(?) were really powerful.

"Morning After Pill (MAP): within 72 hours of sexual intercourse (discharges fetus from womb, like a period would)"

No. "The abortion pill is taken after getting pregnant and effectively ends the pregnancy up to 49 days after your last period. The morning-after-pill is taken within 120 hours of having unprotected sex as a way of preventing pregnancy. It works by surrounding the egg and not letting any sperm connect with it. Like the abortion pill, the morning-after pill cannot be bought over the counter, but can only be given to you by a doctor or a clinic."

From the same website, right before the part you quoted. Kind of important to add, don't you think? Sometimes leaving things out will make all the difference, huh?

"What is the difference between the morning-after pill and the abortion pill? The two are often confused, but the morning-after pill is NOT the abortion pill. The abortion pill is taken after getting pregnant and effectively ends the pregnancy up to 49 days after your last period.

You also might want to quite scientific or hospital-sponsored websites instead of teen sites. While useful, they are less reputable. Although both are easily mis-quoted.

That's my point. They're two different things, and in your essay you said that they were the same thing and that they served the same function, which they don't.

"RU486, Mifepristone: within 4 to 7 weeks after LMP (same as MAP)"

They aren't the same. And the part I quoted proved that the morning after pill and the abortion pill are two different things, so I don't think it was necessary for me to include those two sentences.

DiyaDeathwalker In reply to polanak [2008-04-04 19:08:48 +0000 UTC]

While I respect your views, I do not agree that abortion is bad. I believe that it is a way to keep unwanted children from being born, and a way to help women who were raped and abused. Please understand that, if this were written with any bias, it would be "pro-choice".

In my opinion, abortion helps (some) to stop child abuse. If people were intelligent and didn't even get pregnant in the first place, however, we could avoid these unpleasantries altogether.

polanak... are you stupid? can you read? if you had read the rest of it you would have noticed that the "baby burning" or whatever, is BULL. inserting acid into the womb would not only kill the baby, but would most likely make the mother infertile. fetuses dont breathe until they are born, it would just fill their lungs with fluid. they get their oxygen and nutrients from their mother through the umbilical cord. the real abortion procedures are described later on, but i suppose your tiny brain couldnt stand to read that long. i suppose your christian?

Pyro-Pellinore In reply to xylahh [2010-07-26 20:50:03 +0000 UTC]

Don't be an asshole. Saline abortion used to be legal and it DID burn the fetus and the fetus DID swallow it and have it's insides burned and 1/300 was born alive and then MURDERED outside the womb. That's why it's illegal now. There is no need to be mean to someone. Grow up yea?

I've come across *systemofastef before. She's an extremist Christian. Seems she used to be wiccan and then realised the evilness of her ways. Good reply and great info. The last two are really horrible. I don't really think abortion should be legal after the first trimester, except if the mother's life is in danger. Actually, it is not legal after the first trimester in Australia. No anti-abortionists have proven to me that there is brain activity before the first trimester. I don't agree with abortion after the point where brain activity has started, because that makes the foetus a human. I believe that point is after the first trimester.
