Description
so ... imagine ...75 photographers -- not paparazzi, just so you know -- with about 68 of them screaming. i mean fucking screaming.
they want "the eye contact" shot.
they don't care about publicity for the corporate sponsors.
they want stock.
they yell.
they verbally abuse publicists.
i've watched and listened.
although they are NOT paparazzi -- they're referred to as press line photographers as paparazzi make unauthorized photos whilst following around their prey -- but, that said, you wouldn't believe the roar.
especially when someone is always in the news. mischa. lindsay. paris. i know ... they're not gwyneth or nicole ... but ... in terms of fodder for the weeklies and monthlies ... the public can't get enough.
you have to understand. the collective weeklies will publish about eight photographs from this night. seventy-five photographers. eight photos.
and then there's the material that john, vespa and myself which will be "different."
like this one:
[link]
people magazine liked it and the reason i make note of it ... is that it's not a nipple slip ... it's not something defamatory. it's just a girl.
arriving on a red carpet.
telling the seventy-five to be quiet ...
whilst she says hello to a friend.
she was actually saying, "guys ... please ... just a moment."
because she knew that i'm doing something different.
that ... and i've known her since she was 16.
she looked amazing last night in both this and when she walked the runway during a fashion show.
the tabloid people ... the online gossip freaks ... they can say anything they'd like...
this is a nice girl.
what the fuck is a twenty-something supposed to do with access to everything ...
stay home and fucking knit?
puhlease.
she's gonna party.
she's gonna hookup.
she's gonna have a hangover.
she's just like us.
unless all you do is sit at home and knit.
canon e1dm2. 24-70/2.8L. 1/50th or so at f/5.0 or so. minor levels. minor contrast. always a bit of unsharp mask to take care of what the low-pass filter does to a photo. yes ... a bit off-camera flash with ttl cord.

I do love the stories behind your shots, and I do love the personal connection you have to many of the stars... it does definitely help with the results.
I also prefer your crop (in camera I'm guessing) to People's

Nice shot of her genuine expression. I'm sure the line photogs didn't appreciate the version of this shot that they took.
Oh yeah, you must like her. . . you only said FUCK 3 times in this post.

Needless to say that your shots are close to technical perfection. I don't have the knowledge to talk about it, so I'll skip that part
More than the subject and the picture itself, I just love the way you got much more than a celebrity, here.
You got a portrait of a girl (who happens to be quite famous) but who's just like any other girl - and who gets tired of people that want her just for what she does, not for who she is.
I love the pose and the smile, somehow like she's saying: "yeah, you're all the same, but this guy in here... deserves something different".
I'm taking this one with me

I just love the whole situation and how you have managed to capture it so well.
Whats also great about it is she seems to be completely unphased by the mob.

Chris...it stuns me you have so much power over so many people. And I think you are absolutely right...celebrities are normal people, I have met a few in my short life whether it be in bars or the theatre. I even bought Dame Judi Dench a drink at the theatre. They're normal, but live in the public eye. I despise people that run up to them flashing bits n pieces and long for a signature on a napkin, in fact no...I pity them.

And what a power-trip for you
Question, did you start off behind the line?
And, after you do the Street PDF/Thing, will you do one on Photo Organisation? Thats my main killer right now...
... that and waiting for my 24-70 L to arive!

i stand in front of them all the time and they yell at me for different reasons ...
but i usually counter with, "xxxx hires me ... they'd hire you to be out here ... but they don't ... so ... shut your fucking mouth or i'll have you removed."
works.

good for you, its nice to know there are people like you out there that do it in another way, press line photographers piss me off and even thougt thats their jobs, still.
It mush be funny to think of the reaction all those other photographers get when she is more open towards someone of a known and earned stature such as yourself.
great work.
