dedicated to ^serpentinekissthis time with film.
this time with a rollei 3.5 MX EVS Type II ... second roll exposed. all with my little friend.
she likes to pose.
she's a great subject.
then again, all i really wanted to be a director ... and look where it landed me ...
yes ... in hollywood ...
but ... in stills.
whatever.
i'm not complaining.
no, i didn't ever want to be a director.
but ... there's always a hidden director inside all of us.
especially in this town.
i really enjoy looking at Duane Michals' material. the series stuff.
i've done a couple ... but ... a series came to mind when i shot this.
the initial hooked up part.
the ... um ... whatever part.
the ... "i can't believe he talked me into doing this part."
dunno.
thought it was interesting.
shot 1: rollei 3.5 MX EVS Type II. 1/8th. f3.5. ilford delta 400 (+2 at 1600) spot metered for wrist with taking other values into consideration.
shot 2: rollei 3.5 MX EVS Type II. 1/15th. f3.5. ilford delta 400 (+2 at 1600) spot metered for face.
shot 3: rollei 3.5 MX EVS Type II. 1/15th. f3.5. ilford delta 400 (+2 at 1600) spot metered for face with taking other values into consideration.
did i use a spot meter? no. i used an eos1dm2 as a spot meter for an exposure made on a fifty year old camera.

I like this serie a lot. The "love" tatoo on the wrist is just so interesting.

Lovely series, meaningful and emotional.
I wish web/internet/monitors could offer greater possibilities so one can appreciate the real quality of film shots like these. Coz optimisation just takes the 'oomph' out of those IMHO.

Rocks. I used to do the same with the 300D for my old Fujica ST701, because I'm a lazy bastard. Unfortunately, it broke down, and I haven't gotten around to reactivating the old Agfa Isoly or Revueflex cams.

Now if you can do a story in 22 pages, you've got one issue of a comic book.
Care to try for a Graphic Novel, maybe?

Excellent work, Mr. Weeks. Center panel with the light in the upper left corner melding with the frame... opens the boundaries up nicely. Such expressions on her face...

comic books are 22 pages? hmm... didn't know.
well .. i'm actually working on the layout on a book with an art director. but ... hollywood stuff.
after that i'll do one without content for the masses.
this model takes direction really really well!

Dunno why... seems like an industry standard. 22 pages. I suppose 8 pages are for ads, letterspage, and the like... so that gives it an even 30. Pays the bills.

I take it models that *don't* take direction well are more prevalent? How hard is it for them to understand "go there, pose, look pretty, raise your arm, smile, turn, lean, pout" ? I've seen dogs with longer command lists.

most models i work with take direction very well ... where they shine ... is "how" they look at the camera ... or how they "don't" look at the camera but know "it's" there.
ya' know.
wish my chihuahua knew more commands than the models.

simple floor lamp with a bulb! but what i love about using that kind of light is that it's the kind of light everyone sees and remembers and has in their house.

usually just a 500w photo flood along with ambient.
when you shoot b/w ... light is light is light ... no worrying about the temperatures of said light.

mmmmmm spot metering, my next camera shall have spot metering. Perhaps a 1V or an 3 either or with power booster, could get something older, or cheaper, but I want to buy something new, and something that will last a bit that has some functionality.

...series, hmm - might have to give something like that a go - wrap in a bit more fiction than my portraits usually entail - hard to do when i'm trying to look so far *into* the model, but i'm all about stretching my comfort zone...
