I've so far refrained from trying to make a tutorial, because while I can do, I can't teach to save my life. I'm not even gonna attempt to explain how I do the details.
Speaking of details, this doesn't really have any. I don't know if it's explanatory enough, so tell me. o.0 and ask all the questions you want, so I can fix it properly.
It's for photoshop, but I'm sure you could probably use it in anything else, including MS Paint.
And I use a tablet, so let me know how you get on if you're using a mouse.

The only difference between using a mouse and using a tablet would be, a lack of pressure sensitivity with the mouse. But if you're using a 1 pixel brush, it wouldn't change size when using a tablet anyway. So it should work the same. Although I would experiment with flow and/or opacity of the brush! From 30-50% opacity is my guess, and make adjustments from there.

Welcome! Even though I made this tutorial ages ago, my technique hasn't changed at all. So it's still one I can confidently recommend.

Ok so just to clarify, though I think I get the gist of it,
you blob two colours together and then, instead of using the blur of smudge tool, you pick one colour and do little squiggles to blend with the other colour, then you do they same thing with the other colour to blend with the first colour.
Am I right?

The hardest part is finding the technique you prefer, which gives the best result, and which feels more natural. They all feel strange at first, no matter which you try, so it takes a long time to finish a piece the first few times. But as you find your style, it comes easier and faster, and you don't have to think so much about it when you do it. :B

Yes, a tablet. I would explode from rage if I tried drawing with a mouse. I'm left handed, you see, and I use the mouse with my right hand. xD; But even if I was a right hander I think it'd still be ridiculously tough.

LIES. I'm actually embarrassed by this tutorial. It took all of ten minutes to put together, and... I just suck at explaining how to do stuff that I do automatically.

When I first started to learn to draw, I used straight lines to shade, and when I read about using circles, I thought it'd be way too uncomfortable and if I could keep it up at all, I wouldn't be able to keep the pressure consistent and it'd look really uneven. But you get used to it. It comes naturally after a while. :3
But since you mention it, I am interested to know if that'd work. Different brushes and different techniques combined would create so many different combinations, you would probably never have to use the same look twice. There isn't a circular brush in photoshop (at least not my version) but there really should be one. o.o

Oh, great! I really hope you can find it useful, I don't know how well it'd work with a mouse. I saw one gallery where the artist just put noise over the whole painting, to make it look like a low-res magazine scan, which looked great. Uh... and now I'm wondering why I thought that was relevant. Oh, 'cause it disguises bad skin blending and stuff. Judging by the little I've seen so far, you don't need any help at all.

Aww thank you so much! But with that little tutorial, I managed to get Reita's nose (well, the little of it you can see...) NOT to look like latex too much. xD And yes, I managed it with the mouse! Having a tough time, but it works. ^^ So thanks a million!

I use CS2. And, uh... o.0 Brushes? Like brushes you put on icons? I don't use any. I just use the Brush Tool. For everything.
(Unless I really am making icons, but then I generally use brushes I made myself. x3)
