Words Below:
Agent Chloe White got a message to see Commander Jake Black for another mission. She found a file with her name on it. The more important missions were still done using low tech to avoid the risk of discovery.
"I have a new mission for you," he explained.
"Does this involve a new album or a new movie?" wondered Chloe.
"Actually both," Jake informed her. "A movie is being made based on Diamanta, a cartoon about a band called Diamanta And The Shiny Jewels from the 1980s. The person in charge is suspected of helping out the Junebug Talent Agency but we lack the evidence we need. We need you to get the evidence and then we can take action. The movie is called Outrageous and it involves a group of teen girls with outrageous hairstyles. You will play Diamanta's redheaded younger sister. As usual other agents will be there to protect you."
"I guess I will need to get my hair done," Chloe remarked.
"Oh, you will need to do more than that," said Jake. "To make sure the movie has the feel of a teenage girl, I will need you to help with the writing. They will be editing your work, sometimes beyond recognition."
Chloe sighed. Not only would she need to come up with ideas for the movie, they would be editing her work to make sure it was more like a stereotypical teenage girl, or at least a stereotypical teenage girl as seen by men over 30. It was almost guaranteed to be terrible.
"I will not let you down," Chloe assured him.
"I know you won't," agreed Jake.
Chloe began her work on the script. The cartoon star from the 80s was reimagined as a social media success who did so well that she was given a contract. She thought about all the people it reminded her about and the importance of keeping a band together, especially when being exposed to subliminal messages. This somehow remained one of the key points of the movie.
Other ideas did not work out so well. Chloe had an idea for the star to rely on audience participation when there was a power failure during one of her concerts. This idea was rejected, probably because it was too good. In addition, Chloe was not allowed to tell the creator of Diamanta about the movie being made. She was sure the creator of the series would have plenty of ideas but she would not be informed until months later.
Once the script was made, the actual recording began. The 1980s was a colorful decade and preteen girls, the target audience of the original show, liked bright colors too yet the first publicity photos had a distinct lack of color. It was as if there was something very dark going on. Another controversy happened when they cast a transgender teen to play a person of mixed race. Plenty of other people were available to play the part and some of them were better at acting.
Next Chloe and the other stars of Outrageous went on tour hoping to pull in an audience. The tour did poorly but it still did better than the movie which got pulled after only two weeks. More importantly to Chloe, the Agents Of Freedom got the incriminating evidence they needed. A film giant was brought down and young actors could breathe a little easier.
Outrageous was considered one of the worst movies ever made, but Chloe still had a fondness for it despite everything. It was a failure as a movie but it could still be appreciated for what it was, a trap created by the Agents Of Freedom.
