Adventures In The Courtyard — Description

Lucy is considered one of the kindest people in the sorority. This is the story of how she joined them. After this I plan to return to the present.

One year after the creation of the sorority house, the members of the sorority planned how to start off the new year. Like the year before, they decided to throw a huge party and invite anyone who wanted to come. That would give them plenty of people from which to select their new members.

Rumors had spread about the parties thrown by the sorority and what their true motives might be. None of the rumors were completely accurate but some of the rumors told stories even worse than what actually happened. Because of this not as many people came as the year before.

One of the people to come was Lucy. She had heard the rumors but did not take them seriously. Being a genetic female, she actually wanted to join the sorority. She was friendly with all the members and asked them many questions. Quickly she learned they wanted her to join as well.

Danielle took her aside and led her into the courtyard. It had a walkway going around it and was filled with grass, flowers, and even trees. Lucy looked around in amazement. The courtyard seemed larger than the sorority house itself and yet there it was in the center.

Bird songs could be heard throughout the courtyard. She heard a ringing in her ears as the entire world spun around her in a massive swirl of colors. Deep inside her she felt a calming sensation. It was as if she had become one with nature. As Danielle spoke, the ringing in her ears stopped and the swirl of colors turned back into the colors of the courtyard like it had been before.

"We need people like you," she explained. "There are people who need your help. You can show them where they need to go and what they need to do."

"Are you sure I can handle it?" wondered Lucy.

"If you would like, we can find someone for you to practice on," replied Danielle. "I have no doubt you will be accepted into the sorority."

This made Lucy feel really good. She really wanted to join the sorority and was glad to hear Danielle say she should be able to get in easily. Even so she did not want to take any chances so she looked for someone she could practice her skills on.

A shy freshman boy was nervously standing in the corner. He knew about the rumors but did not believe them. His problem was interacting with others, especially girls. Coming to the party was a way he thought he could overcome his shyness. Instead it had the opposite effect. He was just there not interacting with anyone at all.

Lucy saw her opportunity and approached him. She led him into the courtyard. The shy boy gladly followed her. Danielle was there watching them. If needed she would take over but she wanted to see what Lucy could do on her own. Nearby a small bird flew from one tree to another.

"Watch the bird," commanded Lucy. "See how she flies from one tree to another. Imagine yourself flying like the bird. You will overcome your shyness around girls. You will discover you have more in common with them than you think."

The shy boy imagined himself flying through the sky like the bird, He thought about how much he had in common with girls. She would no longer be shy around them. She would learn from them and they would learn from her.

The freshmen girl had overcome her shyness around other girls. After that she rejoined the party and had no problem talking to the various members of the sorority. She later discovered she had developed a shyness around boys but that was something they could work on later.

Danielle gave Lucy a nod of approval. A short time later, both Lucy and the girl she had helped were told they had been accepted into the sorority. They celebrated together. Lucy was considered an important part of the sorority by old members and new members alike. Eventually she would be the new Vice President, but that would come years later.
