He approaches. He scans my trunk, touches the bark with his hand, and presses a stethoscope against it. He seems to cast a look of disappointment my way... And then, I see a satisfied smile spread across his face. Like that of a hunter who has caught his prey. With intense sadism and brutality, he begins to bring me down. The first blow reverberates through my entire being. It burns. It hurts as if my leg were being snapped in two while I was still alive. Each axe stroke cuts deep—right to the bone, muscle, and nerve. I feel the wood splintering as if it were my own flesh.
