I would have preferred to call this "A Portrait of the Artist and Her Imaginary Friend," but DeviantArt's form doesn't go in for long titles.

I lifted this right out of this photograph of me with my little sister's dog Elle (pronounced "Ellie"). At the time the photo was taken, Elle had only been adopted for just a few days, and I was visiting my sister a lot to help the little mutt get comfortable in her new home.

I love dogs just as much as I do dragons (and probably just a teensy bit more), and the shot encapsulated that love so well, the whole girl-and-her-dragon thing wasn't really a big leap from there. What Anne McCaffrey fan in her right mind HASN'T had dreams of her very own dragon? (And yes: I would pick a green over a gold any day of the week!)

I considered a few effects that would make this look more like a photograph, but I didn't land on anything I was really happy with. And, as always, my inexpert artistry is pretty clear in a lot of ways. But I still had fun painting it, and I hope you like looking at it!

Photoshop CS2 and an OLD school Wacom Intuos tablet. Don't ask me how many hours. It measures in days. I am really very inept.
