Description Re-inked, scanned and colored it in Photoshop because the old scan was pretty bad. My second parody comic ever and also the longest... This is the second and last page.

GRIMLOCKUS PRIME, aka: "Why didn't Grimlock ever try to steal the Matrix?"

I still consider Grimlock with a trailer the most hilarious things I have ever drawn. But seriously, why do all the Primes have trailers? Optimus did, Rodimus too, and in IDW so did Sentinel and Nova Primes... In japanese contuinity, all Autobot leaders had trailers - Ginrai, Star Saber, Star Convoy... I guess it comes with the job description.

I can definitely see the trailer being extra armor for Grimlock.

I could imagine if Grimlock getting a 3 vehicle mode if he became a Prime.

Could happen! Especially now with Power of the Primes where Grimlock's toy is Matrix compatible.

Better idea:
Give Grimlock a space ship that could turn into a giant version of him, like with Gurren Lagann and the Arc Gurren.

The reason every Prime has a trailer is just for the sake of a battle platform/super mode armor & enhancements.

Hilarious comic. I like Grimlock's scorpion-like trailer.

Thanks! And yeah, they all must have a trailer. Even Star Saber had one, and he is a friggin' jet!

If there's anything that Japan has given us Transformers fans that I can be thankful for, it's the invention of the super mode for Autobot leaders.

I am not that thankful for that, as A: it leaves poor Cons at a disadvantage, Megatron is now often smaller then Optimus and B: what is the point of a super mode, why doesn't Optimus uses it all the time? It's like with Power Rangers, if they used the Zords before the monster grew, they could finish the battle in seconds. This way, in true anime fashion, Prime starts battles in regular mode and switches to supermode in a 3-minute transformation (while the Cons wait patiently) when the tide is against him.
Thankfully, Animated and Prime got back to the classic roots.

I have my own explanations to all of that.
1. I like to think that as Decepticons, with their tendencies toward instigating battles, would probably have the upper hand over the Autobots right away because the Decepticons, Megatron included, probably have quite a bit more power and weaponry in their typical combat-related vehicle modes than their Autobot adversaries. Plus, they have the element of surprise on their side, too, so in a few ways they're at an advantage, especially since they fight dirty. Besides, in just about every part of the Unicron trilogy, the Decepticons almost always had equal footing with the Autobots because both sides had access to the MacGuffins of the Armada and Cybertron shows. Even in Energon the Decepticons had 2 massive gestalt transformers while the Autobots had only Superion Maximus.
2. Optimus would probably favor efficiency over being constantly battle-ready, so staying in a regular mode would save on energon and his own physical wear. If he needs it, he can always engage in his super mode to help him even up the odds against Megatron (who is always bigger and taller than "regular mode" Optimus,) even if it's by beating Megatron with just direct attacks and no real strategy.
3. In just about every incarnation of Transformers Megatron received a power boost when he gets reformatted into Galvatron, who puts up quite a fight against Optimus Prime, even when Prime combines with a teammate. Plus, Galvatron had Tidal Wave as a "power mushroom" in Armada. Oh, and despite Galvatron somehow turning back into Megatron, he probably still retains that same power, seeing as how his ambitions seem to escalate with each chapter of the Unicron trilogy. If he didn't still have that same power that he had as Galvatron, why would he not want to do more than just take over the world, but to even recreate the universe to his liking in Cybertron?
4. Excessive stock footage? Fair enough. It's just a fanboy moment. Why don't the Decepticons take advantage of shooting Optimus when he's busy combining with his trailer? Well, that's just the magic of cartoons. At least the stock footage isn't boring until they're overused.
5. According to Linkara in his "Mightily Murdered Power Ringers" comic review, Zordon mentioned a rule that the Rangers were not to escalate a battle unless the enemy forces them to. Besides, if they form the Megazord right from the start, then each episode would be no longer than 10 minutes. Again, the Zords probably use up high amounts of fuel, too, so why whip them out if there's a chance at defeating an normal-sized enemy with their martial arts skills or their handheld weapons. Come to think of it, it would be more effecient if they just used the Zords without combining because their enemies would have to fight 5 individual opponents. Again, stock footage helps pad out the episode and stimulates the interest of the viewers. Hell, I'm no fan of Power Rangers and even I like watching them form the Megazord (I'm a bit of a giant robot fanatic.)
6. I have no problem with most of the Transformers series, but nowadays they've seemed to abandoned attempts to reinvent the series. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with sticking with a formula that works, but TFA and TFP have almost the same cast of Autobots. Not to mention they both draw heavily from something that didn't work out as well as it could have: The live-action film trilogy. I don't really like the idea of the AllSpark because it seems like a magic device, with no explanation about how it works. Sure, Primus was the same thing but at least he was a planet-sized transformer, so he couldn't be boring when he did stuff that could be considered "magic." I'd rather have a god of transformers than just a magical cube.

I'll give both series some credit, even though both don't usually have Prime wearing a mouthplate. TFA had a cool, fun-looking futuristic setting that allowed for uniquely-designed vehicles (Plus, a more comedic feel, which was kind of refreshing) and TFP worked in both the AllSpark and Primus & Unicron into the story without having to derive too much from the G1 continuity.

Heh, yep it seems a trailer is a pre-requisite for a Prime. That is, except in Animated and Bayformers. (Those Fallen-lookalike Primes would have looked odd with a trailer...)

This is just fabulous as soon as I saw this I laughed like a little rugrat.
I like the way you drew the trailer its a really good design just how there is extra legs instead of wheels makes it more fun.
I think the trailer was like a trademark for all Primes to say only the ones with the trailer have the juice! and stay in front.
Well done on this ^_^

Thanks! It's one of my oldes parodies but I like it a lot. I had so many GRimlock toys I might do a kitbash trailer like this one one day...

I guess all Primes need trailers, though Animated Prime is kinda sketchy on that - sometimes he has the firetruck trailer, sometimes not.
