Talen had left Mathias and Azar, who had trailed behind them to just watch the Winter Horse Extravaganza, (as he did not have his own Spirit horse) to load and fly the horses back while he loaded Orod onto a different plane to Iceland. He'd caught word of a mounted archery competition and had quickly looked into it, becoming more and more excited as he learned what was to take place. You see, Talen was an elf, master of the bow and descendant of one of the great elven steed riders in nordic elf history. Having the opportunity to compete with his bow and his horse gave him fond memories of his early childhood, when he learned to hold and aim a bow while standing, running, even upside down.
But this would be the first competition with his bow on horseback. Although he'd taken Orod along and practiced hunting with his friends at OBM, it wasn't the same as a competition, where you were judged on your aim as well as your handling. But the elf had no fears about his stallion being unmanageable. He'd picked up on Talen's excitment and had asked the elf many questions about what was expected of him, almost analyzing the information and processing it to perform well once there.

"Easy Orod..." The elf soothed as he mounted, ebony bow across his back out of the way. The grey tossed his head and pranced sideways for a moment as he took in the other competitors, settling down quickly as he sized them up. Talen reviewd the course outloud once more, making sure both he and his mount knew the way. All too soon, it was their turn to go. Loping out of sight of the starting line, Talen surveyed the path, searching for the first target before drawing his bow and nocking an arrow on the string, held loosely by his thigh. It was Orod who spotted the first one, surging towards it and angling himself so that the elf could get off a good shot.
"Steady" He murmured, drawing back the arrow and looking down it to the target. Slowly he breathed out, a breath of cold air in the cool temperature as the sun was setting. Then he let it loose, the string twanging as it was released, sending the arrow straight towards the target with the type of accuracy every elf prides himself on. Inwardly, Talen grinned. This is what he was meant to do. Just himself, his bow and his horse, all connected with the same intent.
