I think the main criteria for a really good naughty 3d poster is that it should not be perceivable as a naughty image without knowing the trick to view it.

parallax - side to side shift = width of picture needed to get the depth?
am i on the right track? parallax in video games old was the depth effect by layering backgrounds and sprites to move at different speeds

Right, parallax is a stereogram is a horizontal shift between same points of pattern. Most people can't fuse a stereogram if parallax is more than 2.5 inches (6-7 cm)
