Description
A dump I've planning for more than a year is finally here!
Allow me to pay a little homage to side characters unimportant to the main plot but still with fun stories and formally introduce Ilekillisa and Vassigoss of House Mymis, Western Monarchs (aka Queen and King) of Kingdom of Mymis. One of oldest dragons on the planet, here pictured more in their youthful years, still absolutely in character to this day, I just don't like drawing wrinkles lol.
1-2) A brief look into their dynamic and world perspective lol. Ilekillisa was an Heir to the Western throne of Mymis, descendant from the first and only dynasty that has ruled it since it's very beginning. She's always been a positive, happy and optimistic woman, not wanting to put too much burden on her people and officials and being an efficient, organized ruler that makes wise decisions. Vassigoss…well, he came from somewhere alright. Nobody just knows where. Back in the day, all it seems to have happened was that there was a new person in the Palace and some time later, it was announced he was to be the Princess' husband and King, whiiiiich naturally shook Mymisians and despite many inquiries, none of the questions have been answered. Very few people have known his origin story: Illy, her fathers and previous Kings and several trusted officials, but all aside from first have passed away or forgotten. It remains a mystery. (Whenever asked on how they met, the Queen giggles mischievously while the King rolls his eyes and sighs.)
Nevertheless, the presence of this man was almost a godsend, for his attitude was perfect to balance his new wife's well-intentioned, but sometimes blind faith in good and positive. Until he learned the inside outs of governance, he was the boogeyman that towered from behind her, his large physique, imposing presence and piercing stare daring anyone to take advantage of Ilekillisa and screw her over. He was the hand that caught the balloon of Illy's utopian ideas and set it on the ground with a flat "no". He had two states of presence: bored or stern. The former was accompanied by an unimpressed gaze, slow blinks at nay attempts to wow him and a low, sarcastic (sometimes almost humorous) remarks that give off a vibe of a person who's seen too much and cannot be amazed. Or perhaps seen too much, decided that was enough and gave up on life. Be my guest in guessing. And the latter was employed when he was on-duty as a King, to keep sly and manipulative officials in line, as previously mentioned, and keep the order in the court. Vassigoss provided a wise counsel to Ilekillisa, by not giving a flying fuck that he's speaking to a Queen and giving her the most honest, straightforward answers to delicate questions ("Do you think this idea of mine is stupid?" "Hella"), but without any intention to harm or undermine. He would answer truthfully to questions and offer his opinion and/or advice on how to better them, if he had any. If not, he'd genuinely say 'I don't know'. This came off as a shock of aristocrats who had a specific song and dance when interacting with royals - you are not to offend them, your life can be on the line - and to Ilekillisa herself, while she wouldn't admit it, she was indeed a spoiled pampered princess who has been always talked to in a roundabout way. Nevertheless, it quickly turned valuable, for she knew who to trust and who was most…well, normal, out of her infinite supply of advisors. He wasn't ashamed of not knowing, he wasn't ashamed or afraid of not giving her what she wanted. And within time of cheerfully using this virtue to better herself and her duties, within time of bonding, softening and growing fond, Vassigoss started to notice Illy's problems and went out of his way to find a solution for her, then solve them himself, then worked out the fundamental hiccups so there is no problems to begin with. Within time, he'd notice her not sleeping for three days and anxiously juggling all her duties like a hummingbird on Red Bull, and he'd quietly strike her in the neck, pick her up before she hit the ground and calmly inform her flabbergasted fathers that they will be taking a break at the beach. Illy may have huffed and puffed and scolded him when she came to, but she remained seated on the sand and sulkily sipped the watermelon juice he offered her. Within time, he became her equal, her partner, her King, and has remained as such to this day.
3) Self-indulgent doodle of Illy adoring and basking in the glory that is Vass' hair (or feathers, in dragony). What can she say, it's long and smooth and silky and thick and perfect! She loves it very much, to drape it around herself when she's bored or when they sleep, to braid it and style it in million different ways to keep her hands busy when she's discussing something with him (or, again, when she's bored lol). He, as indifferent as he is, often lets her and secretly likes the feeling of fingers in his hair and himself in a mirror when she a nails a stylish look. Plus it makes her happy. Win-win
4) Kinda unsurprising surprise, Vass' real name isn't Vassigoss! Again, just like his origins, no one but Ilekillisa knows that and that name is uttered only by her when they are assured they have deep, secure privacy, and even then he tends to frown and scold her for using it, saying it could be dangerous. Why? Well, nobody knows. Upon deciding that Vass was to be the Western King, he suggested changing his name so, in his words: "my former and current home do not come to harm one another". What the hell did this mean? Uncertain, but, whether this actually had an impact on their safety, no assailant came to harm them for a century to come, well, not the ones they couldn't identify anyway. Ilekillisa was uncertain about this change, she could see his point of danger but reasoned both his first and last names were common enough that no one could pinpoint his identity among millions of his countrymen. Nevertheless, Vassigoss remained firm in his decision and would not budge, so Illy reluctantly accepted
5) One would think that a man wouldn't need explicit telling that superpowers are against the rules in a simple game of hide and seek, but apparently he does. Illy will remember this.
Lo and behold, Vass is a Kayidin! For those unaware, Kayidins in my world are also called Superbeings, aka creatures born with unique abilities, Kays, that do not correspond with their lineage or species, some not even possible outside the field of sorcery. In this doodle, I'll talk about two abilities of his that relate to his entire body, one to turn invisible and another to pass through all solid matter. Amazing for spying, he says. Invisibility can also slightly dampen the sounds he makes but only by a small margin which to him, a man with an exceptional talent at steady breathing and silent footsteps, is all that's needed. It can also turn whatever items that he's carrying on his body invisible, like clothes, but not if, let's say, he's holding some papers (I'm thinkin' that a glitch for this could be if he carried it on him, like in his pocket, turning invisible and THEN taking it out, then it would likely work).
6) And another set of Kays for him: Penetration/X-ray vision and telescoping vision. The name says it all. Perfect for spying (again) on foreign guests coming into the Palace and entertaining yourself with their private quarrels. This also shows how Vass' eyes change as he uses any of his Kays, sclerae and pupils turn violet and irises a lighter shade of pink.
7) Not one to be outdone, Ilekillisa is officially the greatest sorceress in Mymis, perhaps even this side of the continent (well, among mortals anyway, Searus doesn't exactly count xD). She says she's been taught magic from basically birth to adulthood by two extremely powerful sorcerers, though she doesn't say ever say their names (and looks between annoyed and exasperated when thinking about them). Taught in all schools of magic, Illy can pretty much do anything she desires with at least an expert level of skill, or greater. For instance, she is an extraordinary healer, as well as summoner, being able to bring any item into existence with a flick of her talon or reshape an already existing one. She's even able to manipulate the more otherworldly world around her, like the weather, light, darkness, as per the insistence of her mentors, but it is not something she does often. The collar she wears, specifically the blue gem, is her Magical Focus and she never takes it off, aside from bathing and sleeping, and even then the connection she has with it makes it so all she needs is a fraction of focus and a second, and it will be by her side again if removed from immediate presence.
8) And them of today~ You have no idea how exhausting it was to do the math of their ageees and birth yeaaars and when they met each otherrrr, sigh. But I think I got it sorted out XD Vass is definitely the type of "So you're taking this marriage prank really seriously" "…Hun, we've been married for 90 years" because it's too mind boggling they've actually known each other for a century, wat. Idiot children
Bonus notes:
- They're in a queerplatonic relationship with no romantic or sexual attraction involved. They're each other's most important person in life, most trusted friend and a life partner
- It's very likely Vassigoss hails from Mentis, both from his physical appearance, fluency in Ikarian and, well, many many Mentisian customs he still employs. At this point it's pretty much confirmed but the King fucks around with people by going "But can you fully conclude I certainly, definitely, 100%, come from there?"
- Vass had a…non-royal way of speaking, to put it nicely, when he first came to the Palace, as Mentisians aren't known for flowery poetry and complicated words, but rather much more short and blunt sentences, not to mention colorful swearwords. Illy secretly loved this as it was another stark change in what she was used to (not to mention he was often cursing annoying and stupid aristocrats or new experiences with Mymisian technology and customs, which she found endlessly hilarious). Even today, when his speech has very much smoothed out and fully adapted to Mymisian, she still likes to gently nudge him to his old ways, 'specially by dropping Ikarian here and there and he going back to default
- There's a doodle I had planned but didn't end up drawing: Ilekillisa has this collar/shawl thing compromised entirely of Vass' feathers, regularly changing the old ones and adding new ones. This may just sound fun and cute, but in Mentisian culture, people close to each other, friends, family etc. often gift they body parts (feathers, spikes, hair, scales etc.) in a show of both remembrance and that the other has a sway and importance. These items are called Bivels and are often carried or kept in one's home as a good luck charm, and Illy has certainly won the lottery for a soft, fashionable shawl WITH a touching reason that may or may not have made her bawl when she heard it WITH her husband sometimes even actually making a soft smile when he sees her loving it so much. Win-win-win
- The silver bracelet on Vass' forearm is actually Illy's proposal gift to him (in Mymis there's no wedding bands for both but only one to the person who was proposed). Extra fun fact, here's how the exchange went: "Be my King." "….H…have you gone mad, your highness?"
- They have one child, a son called Vychterin Maël Mymis, the heir to the Western throne. Despite their long lives, their son is only 22, and this is because for a longest time, they had trouble conceiving. For years, with million different attempts at million different times, all effort proved futile and there was a deep fear of them passing away without leaving an Heir, the dynasty collapsing and worse, who would be the new Western Monarch? Miraculously, when they were far faaaar out of their child-bearing years (in a time anyone expected them to die any day, actually), a child was formed and grew steadily from a bunch of cells to an actual child, egg being formed safely and a boy hatching, alive and well, making the entire kingdom rejoice. (fun fact, Vychterin's two names together actually mean "longed-for prince". Very fitting)
