Description
Hello everyone!Happy New Year to all of you! I hope 2017 is starting off well so far! I certainly hope that it will be much better than 2016 at least, but anyhow... Well, I suppose this marks my first completed image for the year, and with any luck, this will be the beginning of several others!
I posted the line art for this work last week, and as I said then, this is a little token of my appreciation for my good friend, . In truth, I don't quite know what to say... The two of us have been friends now for several years, and in that time, has been SO incredibly kind, supportive and encouraging to me! I'm truly *truly* grateful and felt that I should do at least a *little* something to show my gratitude.
I suppose the image itself is pretty self explanatory. The two of us absolutely adore our beloved Pharaoh Atem and I wanted to depict him with her rendition of herself as an anime character as seen here: .
I thought the design was adorable, and I must say I had a lot of fun trying to do it justice!
Lots of love,
Yamigirl21

Awww, it's wonderful to see this piece completed so quickly! You've said that you wanted to make this year a more artistically productive one than last year and I think you're already on the road to doing just that - it's only eight days into 2017 and you've already seen this piece through to completion.
And it's very adorable as well! You have such a nice shading style and it's always good to see your works that make use of this. I'm sure that your friend is going to love this gift! Her character and Atem both look great on it.

Thank you my friend! It's always wonderful to hear from you too! And thank you again for your kind words! I am trying to continue being productive with the completion of this work, the continuation of my piece for my husband (his belated Christmas gift) and even my new chapter 12 which I'm wrapping up too! And like I said before, another of those resolutions is to write you a nice long letter and to do better about keeping in touch as a whole! I think I can even do it this week! So be on the look it! It's bound to be pretty lengthy but I'm definitely looking forward to it!
It's been far too long! Thank you again for your incredible patience and I will try very very hard not to get that backed up again!
Talk to you soon!

Heya Kat, I know I touched on it a bit when I saw this before, but I wanted to comment here too. I feel this is your strongest recent pencil piece. I'm not sure if paint makes it harder to go darker, or if perhaps you were trying something different with this drawing in particular, but I like that there is a lot of nice contrast in this. You can easily distinguish the darker values from one another. The strong contrast really makes it feel more three dimensional. The shading on Yami's face is exceptional as well, it's tough to blend shadows on a face, but here you've done a great job and it helps show the viewer when your light source is, and adds to the depth of the piece. I remember mentioning it was line intensive regarding her hair and shirt, but shading definitely fixed that. The only suggestions, upon looking at it again, I would make, and it's not a HUGE deal, is making the hair a tad bit darker at the bangs/hairline. Just a bit darker, because the light isn't going to reach that part. You actually did it for her hair that hangs next to her face. How it gets gradually darker as it gets closer to her glasses. Whatever your process was for this one keep at it!
