The idea behind this piece is an artistic manifestation of a train of thought I had over the course of my evening yesterday. The original idea for this popped into my head when an old Nirvana song came on the radio in the car. (I believe it was "All Apologies".) It got me to remembering Kurt Cobain and how much his music meant to me at that time in my life, and then my mind went on to remember others that are now dead and gone, but still continue to touch my life and inspire me nonetheless. Most of them were musicians in this particular case, like Kurt Cobain or John Lennon, but I was also thinking of writers, artists, and other visionaries... like Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath.... too many to name really. The Messenger is a lighter of candles in memory of those who touch us. She sets them afloat on the ocean to travel the world and grace it with their light. Stock used for this piece comes from `Elandria for the figure and the lanterns and from sxc for everything else.Related content

could you try putting some more time in the postwork, i mean it's quite obvious where one layer ends and the other begins. just to get a more complete final version. i know i'm not perfect at doing this myself either, but give it a thought. just blending the stuff together makes for a more final i think.
otherwise like the thought, too. i never was that into nirvana and such, thinking they were too naive, but the idea nevertheless spans much further than that. the older i get the more i remember everything that has touched me, as i think we descend into some kind of stasis with age. goes to prove, it did start my minds engine, so it has to be good

Magnificent. It's probably the first artwork I see where the gravestone cross really is the symbol of a movement between the lives. Dynamics is deffinately present here, which brings special charm. Great one.

I love the lanterns. Lights and lanterns are a very big part of Tao imagery, to guide us still on the Earth, just as the stars guide us in Heavan. Kinda reminds of me of that

This was supposed to be very Tao/Zen in nature. Originally the plan was to have a different Chinese symbol attached to each lantern, but after I really got the composition together I decided it would just look too messy. Less is more... and all that jazz, eh?

This is full of beautiful talent as it is filled with a beautiful reminder... For when reading I thought of so many whom have come n gone, but found comfort for in the light n even maybe the dark they remain... Once inspired it usually stays.

Inevitably, my absolute favorite piece of a deviantβs work is replaced by another that theyβve made and who I feel has exceeded their previous works.
This is one of those pieces.
Youβre sentiment and inspiration behind this is wonderful and actually quite touching.
It has personal meaning for me because my Grandmother passed away this year, and she most definitely influenced my life more than anyone else ever has.
The artistic elements of this piece are awesome.
I love every aspect of them.

I suppose that's why I take the time to write out all the inspirations and backstories behind these pieces... in hopes that they will touch someone else or that they will be able to identify. Aside from my own personal self-expression, that is my number one reason for making art in the first place.

Many artists donβt bother to take the time that you do to describe their inspirations behind their works.
I feel that this is a mistake because people will end up interpreting the piece in the way that they see it, not the way that you meant for it to be seen.
