Vector Vengers: Ghost Rider - Midnight Sons — Description

As we inch further into this spooky Halloween season, let's take a brief visit with the Horror-themed corner of the Marvel Universe in the 1990s: the world of The Midnight Sons!

Another character we've seen here on Vector Vengers before (albeit now with upgraded art): the Ghost Rider of the 1990s, Danny Ketch!

When young Danny Ketch and his sister were fleeing for their lives from a super-criminal named Deathwatch (all very normal stuff), his life was changed forever. After his sister Barbara was mortally wounded, Danny thoughtbtehy were both done for, until he found a cursed motorcycle in a junkyard (again, very normal happening). After touching the super creepy medallion on the cycle's chassis, he was transformed into what was at the time thought to be only the 2nd Ghost Rider. This new, mysterious version of Ghost Rider began to deal out vengeance in Brooklyn, only appearing when there was "the split blood of the innocent." So not a very proactive curse, then.

Ghost Rider's new comic was a hit, so you know what that means: Marvel milked it for all it was worth. Not long after, they decided to create an entire lines o comics (and merch) agin ol' Flamehead, creating The Midnight Sons and other exploitative titles aimed at cashing in on this hot (pun intended) character. As the lore grew, it turned out Danny was just one in a long line of Ghost Riders spanning back centuries. In fact, had his sister not died, she, too, was destined to become another Spirit of Vengeance. Also, it turned out the last Rider, Johnny Blaze, was their long lost older brother. Yes, a fun mystery character with a simple premise became a messy family drama.

Sadly, all this did was make Ghost Rider seem less unique, and diluted his character until he got cancelled again. Still, though, a dude wearing leather, riding a motorcycle with his skull on fire will never not look cool. (Don't try it at home, folks.)
