Vector Vengers: Danny Ketch (Ghost Rider) — Description

As we inch further into this spooky Halloween season, let's take a brief visit with the Horror-themed corner of the Marvel Universe in the 1990s: the world of The Midnight Sons!

Daniel "Danny" Ketch, grew up thinking he and his sister, Barbara, were just an average Brooklyn kids. But as it turns out, their secret past revealed them to be of a very special lineage, destined...perhaps cursed...to wield great powers with a burdensome responsibility. Oooooh...so ominous.

When Danny took Barb to a cemetery on Halloween night (as teens do), they accidentally stumbled upon a gang war, and caught the attention of super-criminal gang leader, Deathwatch. Fleeing for their lives, and with Barbara mortally wounded, they ended up in a junkyard. Danny, seemingly ate random, found a junky motorcycle with a glowing sigil. Being an idiot, he touched the dang thing. And, ofc rouse, it was magic and it painfully transformed him into that Spirit of Vengeance, Ghost Rider. Don't touch glowing trash, kids.

Now, whenever the blood of innocents was spilled, Dan would become the host for a very determined and violent creature of the night, who sought only vengeance against those who would harm others. Nice, simple premise for a comic, right?

Well, Ghost Rider got very popular very fast. And Marvel decided to exploit this hot property as much as they could. Watering Ghost Rider down with lots of guest appearances, a return of Johnny Blaze, the "original" Ghost Rider, and saddling him with tons of hard-to-follow lore and derivative characters.

In fact, it turned out that Danny and Barb were the long lost little siblings to Blaze, having been spirited away by their mother and given to sweet widow, Mrs. Ketch. And no matter how fast Ghost Rider is, all that baggage was bound to slow him down.

Poor Danny...he just wanted to touch garage with his sister.
