WOW! Must've been a very tame pelican, like at a harbour or a common area where humans are usually present.
When I was in FL recently I found a flock at a boat launch and I followed them around with my camera for awhile. They were certainly tame, they only became skittish when I came within, say, 3 feet of them, or if I made any sudden movement they would startle. Either way, they must display some curiosity towards objects that humans have (even if they're NOT fish! lol) - at one point I had my camera hanging from my wrist and when I extended my hand toward the pelican he raised his neck up a bit, showing that he was interested in it.
I can tell you after reading up on them a bit is that it's a juvenile pelican, the equivalent to a teenager in terms of lifespan. Maybe it had an equally fitting temperament! lol

This guy was hanging out on the beach that ran along a long line of resorts. Although this one was definitely the tames pelican of all the ones I'd encountered there.
That's interesting to know this is a younger pelican; my knowledge of them is quite lacking unfortunately.
Thanks for the comment and the fave!

You're welcome! I got curious about them after following them around that day so I found some of Audubon's original research on them and read it.

I have no idea why that pelican let me pester him as long as I did! I'm rather surprised he didn't fly away or try to bite my arm!

hehe, thanks! I have no idea why he let me get so close. The other pelicans flew away within six or seven feet.

He definitely looks quite threatening there. He was actually a pretty calm bird, despite how much I pestered him.

Wow. These pelican pictures are hilarious! Your model was quite the character, wasn't he? He has these very human facial expressions. If that's possible. Beakial expressions.
Seriously though. I like this picture lots, the perspective and the diagonal line from the beak to the rest of the bird. Yay pelicans!

Hehe, thanks! Whether he wanted to be or not, he was quite cooperative. And I'm definitely a pelican fan now after meeting this guy!

I'm really surprised he didn't take off when I approached him. I could have reached out and grabbed him as he was attempting to eat my camera, but I didn't want my hand bitten off or anything >__>;;
