RetroCryptids - The Horrible Thing — Description
In 1885 a group of unnamed hunters came across an "uncouth, horrible thing" eating a mutilated hog. Rather than trying to kill the thing, the hunters tried to throw ropes over it and bring it back to town but the monster slapped one of its would be captors with its tail, sending the man flying and tumbling for nearly 20ft! In their shock the other men slacked their grip and the creature tore away and jumped into a nearby creek, where it vanished.
