RetroCryptids - The Radical Dullahan — Description
The people who lived along the Chaplin River, Kentucky in 1904 witnessed what was first thought to be a comet or meteor, until they noticed it passing back and forth along the same course.

Peter Catey was able to observe it closely, claiming he saw a headless humanoid riding a plank of some kind. His entire neighborhood kept watch the next night and were able to observe the apparition as it appeared promptly at 2am.

An unnamed scholar, after viewing the phenomenon with his "instruments", decided the entity must be an amateur inventor taking some sort of flying device for a spin. He claimed the head must have been obscured by posture rather than gone.

As no flaming hoverboards ever materialized, I'm going with the paranormal explanation.
