Rarity doesn't walk. She glides.Three fun facts!
- She lifts her hooves off the ground by only a pixel. As a result, I often perceive her moonwalking.
- I mentioned that I copy my ponies' head throughout the frames. Rarity is obviously an exception, because she's so showy.
- Unfortunately I never bothered understanding how her tail is structured. I thought of it as simply three separate abstract shapes. She's all pretty abstract anyway, I guess.

I'll probably sound pompous, so bear with me: I haven't been making pixel animation for much more than a month when I made this, but I HAVE been practicing animation for a decade before; its fundamentals apply to any medium. So I suggest you'd practice animation as a whole if you want to do something like this.

Oh I know about animating it. Sorry maybe my questions wasn't well put.
I've made animations before but I'm always trying to make them small but high res. How did you make it small and pixled but visible?
I mean...is it as simple as doing the entire animation on a small scale and then reducing resolution or is it more then that?
For instance I made an animation I was trying to use as an avatar so I animated in on a 5X5 but I wanted it to be high res so I made it 300dpi. But for some reason I can never make it look good once I upload it, you know?
So, I guess a better way to phrase the question is
"The animation looks slightly pixeled (like a pixel doll) but it still looks good. is making it look that way as simple as small scale/small res?

Uuuhh a small scale, or dimensions, or image parameters or however one could call it, is exactly the same as a small resolution and vice versa. For example 640x480 pixels is a really small screen resolution for your computer. Comparatively, my 50x50 pixels ponies will always be TINY in resolution. It's so small nobody thinks about using the term 'resolution'. (It's usually applied to screen size)
I don't shrink the resolution (or dimensions etc.) of my GIFs, I simply always draw at the scale at which I intend to show it. That's probably the best way to do it, especially for pixels. If anything, I crop my images when I'm done for the larger GIFs.
Using dpi is only relevant if you plan to print an image. Dpi stands for Dots Per Inch, and inches only apply to images on paper or something physical. Using 300dpi simply means that if you printed out your picture, it'd be smaller (but sharper) than if you had used 100dpi. It'd still be the same size on your computer. 'Clarity' isn't affected because the image still has the same number of pixels, and the pixels haven't grown or shrunk, a pixel is always constant, like an atom.
As for making it look 'good', I guess once again all I can say is that experience and practice is the answer.

Dpi is the same as pixels per inch and you can reduce pixels to...well..pixelate something. The term dpi and ppi mean the same thing.
In school we use 72 dpi in videos so dpi isn't just for print.

Moonwalking Rarity, oh god.
I really enjoy how you made each pony have their own unique way of walking.
It takes quite a bit more effort to draw new sprites for every pony, as opposed to just copying a template and tweaking it, but the end result is just that much better looking.
