Description
One of the most heavily-armed of the Mark-II Yaegers, Knight Centurion was designed with firepower and durability in mind. Knight Centurion is capable of taking tremendous punishment, and dishing it out in sufficient quantities in reply. The Yaeger is akin to a walking battleship in function, designed to pick of a Kaiju target from considerable distance, reducing the risk of collateral damage. However, all too often Kaiju tend to get in melee range, which the crew of Knight Centurion learnt the hard way when it ripped off the right arm, explaining the Yaeger's asymmetrical armament.Knight Centurion is equipped with two shoulder-mounted railguns as its primary weapons, capable of launching massive magnetic slugs at such high velocities that the sheer friction caused by the projectile passing through Kaiju flesh cauterizes the wound with the heat produced, reducing the spread of Kaiju blue. It is also equipped with a chest-mounted triple cannon for additional firepower, although these weapons are prized for their ability to momentarily stun a Kaiju without a lengthy set-up, allowing the railguns to land the killing blow, rather than outright lethal force. Knight Centurion was also equipped with wrist-mounted flamethrowers to dissuade Kaiju from closing the distance and cauterizing any open wounds. However, one was lost with its right arm, and without the resources to replace it, the European Shatterdome simply replaced it with a powerful sword. Used in combination with the flamethrower to cauterize wounds, the sword allows Knight Centurion to fill in its main weakness; melee combat.
Despite this refit, as well as numerous upgrades over the years, Knight Centurion was ultimately destroyed in 2024 by the Category IV Kaiju 'Rockhead', which had a resistance to the stunning effects of the triple cannons, as well as nigh-immunity to Knight Centurion's blade, which was broken early in the engagement. Without sufficient time to prepare its railguns, Knight Centurion was finally destroyed when the left side of its Conn-Pod was destroyed, killing one pilot and forcing the other to fight alone. Operating Knight Centurion alone, the pilot was able to perform a full reactor burn, killing Rockhead but running the Yaeger dry in the process, causing them both to collapse to the ground dead. It is unknown whether the pilot was killed by the fall or eventual seizures, but either way he was found dead in the ruined Conn-Pod.
And so the remains of Knight Centurion were shipped off to Oblivion Bay, with a kill count of four Kaiju behind it...
I recently rewatched Pacific Rim and knew why I loved it so much. GIANT ROBOTS. Of course, I had to take a shot at making my own.
After all, who doesn't?
