The Bogey Man

                Jack Osborn was the weatlthy, scientifically trained man who founded, owned, and was CEO of Osborn-Ace Corporation (after a successful merger with Ace Chemicals). Jack was at his wit’s end early in his career, as he faced bankruptcy due to several bad debts and failed patents. He was approached by Knekron. The demon promised him he would be successful, in exchange for his son’s soul, a deal even the panicked Osborn refused. But when Knekron sweetened the deal, promising that Jack would know nothing of the arrangement, he took the creature of darkness up on it.
                The demon was true to his word, and Jack’s business suddenly could do no wrong, becoming one of the most powerful tech companies in the world. The demon manipulated events so that Jack was able to acquire Ace Chemicals from rival Darwin Stromm when Darwin was falsely accused of embezzlement and the company faltered. Jack discovered in Stromm’s notes, a formula for a chemical construct that would grant Jack superhumanly powerful.
Unfortunately, Jack’s mind had broken from the demonic deal, and a secret part of him lost all sanity and sought only more and more power, power he suspected the demon could give him. He began developing Stromm’s formula, in a misguided belief the strength would help him force the power from the demon..if only he could find him.
From within the crevasses of his mind, the dark shadow of Jack Osborn’s evil identity manipulated the CEO into secretly becoming a crime boss. This criminal enterprise had purposes of wealth and power, but mostly, Jack sought the Thanoseid Tome of Crime as a way to reach out to darker and darker powers.
                To protect his reputation and business enterprises, Jack hid his identity with a red hood over his head, and called himself Redcap (after the murderous goblin of legend). Additionally, his insanity tinged voice and unhinged laughter further protected his identity.
                His criminal enterprise eventually brought him into conflict with Maggedon, the crime syndicate that already had ties to Thanoseid and the “Crime Bible”, but Jack was far to smart for many of them. Eventually, however, brute force was to overpower Jacks maddened genius, and assassins for Maggedon confronted Jack in the Ace Chemical Processing plant (that Osborn had acquired for nefarious purposes, of course).
                Nightweb, who in his civilian identity of Peter Grayson, interned at Osborn-Ace Corp, became aware of his boss’ secret life as crime lord, and also arrived on the scene, first to save Jack, then to make sure he served his time. However, the assassins had the jump on them both, and a near miss shot shattered a piece of equipment that sent shrapnel slicing across Jack’s face. Then a second shot pierced Osborn’s chest. Clutching the wound, Jack pitched over backward into a vat of particularly noxious chemicals.
                The Chemicals reacted with the serum Darwin Stromm invented and morphed Osborn physically, empowering him, and granting him the durability to survive what should have been a fatal gunshot wound, but twisting his appearance. In the searing pain of the transformation, Jack’s sane identity (well, how sane is someone who makes a deal with a demon just because they “won’t remember it”?) was submerged behind the darker identity that now referred to itself as the Bogey Man.
                After his apparent death in front of Nightweb, Peter Grayson was shocked to see Jack Osborn back at work the next day, seemingly no worse for the wear, save for a more pallid skin color and a dark hood pulled over his head. Claiming he was “under the weather” the slightly more sinister Jack Osborn continued his business pursuits, while turning his fortune and scientific prowess toward making the Bogey Man’s Arsenal of weapons. His previous identity of the Redcap revealed his tastes and the Bogey Man’s weaponry tended toward a Halloween flair.
                NIghtweb couldn’t reveal what he knew about Jack Osborn, even after coming to blows with the Bogey Man, or risk his own identity being revealed, for Jack had deduced that bit of information for himself.
                Eventually, the Bogey Man went after Nightweb’s girlfriend at the time, Barbara Stacy. He threw her off the Narrows Bridge, but Nightweb was determined to save her. He spun a web, that caught Barbara before she hit the dark waters below, but the sudden stop snapped Barbara's spine. As Nightweb was rushing her to the hospital, the Bogey Man kidnapped Nightweb’s most staunch supporter in the NGPD, Captain James Stacy (Barbara's father0. Nightweb saved the Captain, but Barbara was paralyzed by the incident.
                Bogey Man was remanded to Arkham Island’s Vault, where even Amanda Fisk saw him as too dangerous and unpredictable to join the Suicide Six. Though later, the Bogey Man would form his own sinister group, out of… jealousy?
                At Arkham Island, Jack Osborn was visited many times by Dr. Ashley Quinzel, who attempted to free him of his insanity, not realizing it was mystically, demonically created. On one one of his escape attempts, Jack murdered Dr. Quinzel, using her eye to bypass retinal scanners. He was delighted to later learn the death didn’t take.

Here’s the one… you’ve been waiting for… the most obvious combination but gosh darn it, this was the one obvious amalgam I needed to do. I hope you enjoy the take on it… more Goblin/Joker family to come.
