Description
This is my first attempt at designing the main character from a story I've been working on for nearly 3 years now.The story is about fallen angels caught in a sort of moral limbo (several aren't so much evil as they are just irrationally pissed off or having Greta Garbo moments).
Nico is the central character in the story, a fallen angel who didn't intend to fall...it was the only option open.
This one is done mainly with a 2B and HB pencil on smooth bristol with very little blending.
The first section of the story attached to this photo is here:

My favourite of this is the strands of hair! Very nice picture

Love the clean, minimalist feel to this, and the eyes are stunning.

The shading on this is very smooth, for something with so little blending. The drawing is also very clean, something which with traditional artwork is hard to do with a high quality scan.
While there isn't anything overly compelling about the expression in general, the eyes do have a life of there own. And I have to say, the overall feeling of this is similar to Brandon Lee's character in the 1994 film, The Crow

Thank you for such an in depth comment It's funny, I never thought of The Crow connection before, but I can see what you mean.

I probably would not have seen it if I hadn't watched that film last night.

Haha...I think I didn't get too much into the expression because I was trying to lay the face out so that I had a face to sync up to my character as I wrote.

This is great! Amazing detail, especially in the eyes! Is this out of your mind or referenced?

It's a bit of both. I sort of pulled a Dr. Frankenstein with this one. I used several different photos, pieced him together and then added other bits to pull him together

I think you did a lovely job with this. I get so tired of seeing really smudged up sketches, and I really appreciate how clean and crisp this looks. I think you've captured him very well (sensual lips for the win).
Textures are conveyed well, and its just generally eye-pleasing.
But, while I think white-ness can be an excellent tool to convey feeling, I think the hair could use a bit more blending into the white at the top right.

Thank you I'm a little OCD when it comes to the eyes, though I've had ones where the eyes look fabulous, but the rest of the face is "Oh...so you're going through a cubist phase eh?"

Thank you I think it's part the scanner and part my not darkening the shading. I want to eventually do another drawing of him, do I'll go heavier on the shading then.

Very nice detail. I wish I could see the darks and lights more. But the hair is turning out wonderfully

I was thinking some faulty electronic device might have been the problem.

beautiful details and mark making! I'd love to see more shading for the hair filling up the top right corner but its not necessary as this drawing is fantastic as is.

The look goes well with what one might imagine him to look like based on the beginning of the story.. Had to visit this portrait after reading it. : )
