Description
The Volu' mera are a merged species consisting of the large Volum and the diminutive Mera. The Volum are large tripods with long ski like limbs. Males have large tusks, while females lack such tusks. They have 3 gaits they use to locomote across the icy wastes of their homeworld Weyland. The gait used the most is one in which the two frontal limbs are used as weight bearing and the third leg is used to push the massive body forward, the second gait is an inverse of this, with the rear leg used as a ski while the two frontal legs are used to pull the body along. Finally it has a third gait similar to a person walking with crutches for the non skiable conditions. A Volum cycloptic eye has two pupils for depth perception and is finely tuned to the infrared spectrum of light, giving them incredible vision in the cold. They are capable of surviving on almost anything organic and have quite fast healing, with multiple redundant organs.

The Mera are a boneless hermaphroditic race that seem to be integrated into the chest cavity of a Volum. They have long tentacle-like limbs they use to both grip the neck of a Volum and manipulate objects a Volum cannot. They are capable of retracting into the chest cavity of a Volum but seem to rarely do so, preferring to stay hanging on the outside. A Volums internal structure seems built almost entirely around keeping its mera alive and healthy. Both Mera and Volum are sapient and have neural links inside their multiple connection points, acting as one.

A Volum is literally never apart from its Mera, with the eggs of the mera being passed along with the volume genetic material during mating. Thus Volums are born pre-seeded with a mera. If separated from each other, both tend to go insane without the company of the other. The rare few born without one or the other are called half borns, and can be either shunned or glorified depending on the current well being of the tribe. They usually do not live long due to missing many adaptations needed to survive.

1000s of years before common day, meras were their own separate race of sluglike beings. They created a quite advanced near utopian society, however after a while a split occurred while the reason became lost to time, each side declared war on the other, rapidly destroying the society they tried so hard to build. These two sides would try a number of different weapons and tech. After only 2 years of war, WOMD were dropped, causing the entire planet to plunge into a massive nuclear winter.

In an underground "v01um" facility for biotech, decades after the darkness had fallen, mera scientists worked diligently on a new iteration of biowarsuits for an increasingly destroyed world. Modified versions of Weyland polar herbivores, they were intended to be used as long range recon scouts with advanced biotelemetry data using wetware ai. When they stopped receiving resupplys they realized that they were some of the last of their species. They were forced to create an even deeper connection with their warsuits bringing back much of the original creatures brain patterns and combining them with the scout ais in order to survive in the cold. As they were running out of time, many of the suits were lefy unfinised and some Volu'mera still discover unknown abilitys today.

Now, over 500 years later, the offspring of the merger travel the wastes and sing the songs of their ancestors, war forgotten by the winds of time.
