Description
ThePHantom52: “You said you were born here. Where did you go to college?”
Roxette: “I got my undergraduate degree in English at the University of Southern California in LA, and went to Law School at Columbia University in New York.”
ThePhantom52: “Why did you choose Columbia University to study law?”
Roxette: “First of all, it’s one of the top ten law school in the country. Ruth Bader Ginsburg went to law school there, and I thought if it was good enough for her, it was certainly good enough for me!”
ThePHantom52: “So we might see you on the Supreme Court someday?”
Roxette: “Who knows? Maybe. Right now, I believe I am doing important work right here.”
ThePHantom52: “Which leads me to my next question. Why did you choose to become a prosecutor and work for the District Attorney’s office, instead of becoming a criminal lawyer?”
Roxette: “My father was a criminal lawyer. He worked for a prestigious law firm and defended his clients against charges ranging from minor traffic violations to murder. It was his hope that I would follow him and eventually become a partner in the firm he worked for. I appreciated his talent, but some of his clients troubled me.”
ThePHantom52: “Troubled you? Why?”
Roxette: “I guess I better not say any more about that. There is a second, more serious reason I became a prosecuting attorney.”
ThePHantom52: “And what is that?”
Roxette: “I told you that I went to Southern Cal for my undergraduate degree. While I was there, my best friend attended a party. Somebody put something in her drink. Before anyone realized what was happening, she had wandered out of the party, into the street – a drugged, completely helpless young woman, alone, in a neighborhood she should never have been in.”
ThePHantom52: “That’s awful.”
Roxette: “It gets worse. She was found the next morning lying naked in a ditch. She had been beaten, robbed, and raped repeatedly.”
ThePHantom52: “And nobody knew who did it?”
Roxette: “Everybody knew who did it! And a lawyer, much like my father, defended his clients brilliantly, and convinced the jury that my friend was to blame for being there in the first place. I sat in the courtroom in disbelief as the jury returned a verdict of “Not Guilty” and let them go. I swore then and there that I would fight to uphold the law and make criminals and gang members pay for what they do to innocent people.
ThePHantom52: “And you are doing it well! You have a nearly 100% conviction rate. I’ve heard several defense attorneys say that they didn’t want to face “The Rocket” in court.”
Roxette: “The Rocket? Oh, my! I haven’t been called that since I was a little girl! The attorneys at my father’s law firm used to call me that because I was always racing off and getting into trouble.”
ThePHantom52: “They seem to think you’re doing the same thing now. Has anyone ever threatened you because of how ferocious you are when prosecuting a case?”
Roxette: “I get threatened almost every day! I don’t take the threats seriously though, or I wouldn’t be able to do my job.”
ThePHantom52: “I’m sure you realize that you are making some very powerful enemies because of what you do?”
Roxette: “So? They’re all bullies and cowards! They prey upon the weak and when somebody like me stands up and makes them pay for their crimes, they issue more of their empty threats.”
ThePHantom52: “Does anything scare you?”
Roxette: “Off the record?”
ThePHantom52: “Of course.”
Roxette: “Rats.”
ThePhantom52: “Rats?”
Roxette: “Yes! The disgusting rodents running around the city as if they owned the place. I hate rats!”
