Description Introducing the latest piece of the Polaris extended family. This is the USS Wakeful, commanded by Rochus Heimann after he was given captaincy. He took Charlotte Ainsworth as first officer, of course

Anyway, the ship is a refitted Loknar class ship, which I designed to look more like the FASA thing. The available models all looked too flashy, overdone. The original Loknar was much less cluttered, so here's my interpretation of it.

I seriously need to do a model release spree now, so keep your scanners peeled!

Looks to me like it has 2 individual warp cores to power 1 impulse engine and warp nacelle each. I'm curious thefirstfleet ,Β Do ya think if this was canon, that star fleet would've tried this, saw how inneficient and dangerous it was to try to keep two warp cores in perfect syncronisation/harmony with each other and given up after a few ships, that star fleet would've made it work, or that this ship actually runs on one warp core housed somewhere in the saucer section? I'm curious to see what your take on that whole thing is, as all I hear is online is the first opinion.

The Excelsior used TWO smaller engine cores instead of one larger one so if one was damaged it would allow the other to function independently instead of losing both engines at once. Β Look at the top-back part of the Excelsior saucer and you'll see two smaller circles in blue near each other instead of one as was seen on the refit Enterprise and the "A" and also seen on the Reliant. It was a design improvement for redundant systems to not "keep all eggs in one basket". Β the Enterprise "D" had TWO rectangles near each other instead of circles. Β At least up to season 3 of ST:TNG. Β You can see the rectangles in shots of the "D" on the show.

I imagine one pod houses the Warp core and one the fusion reactor for the impulse engines.

Greyman01 [2016-06-17 02:32:24 +0000 UTC]

this is my favorite design by far. Looks fairly NXprise-ish if looked at long enough, but the one detail that drastically shifts the mood and feel of the ship, the bar that connected the two impulse sections (towers? pylons? IDK), that one detail makes the whole difference.

Β If you're going to use a FASA design (which would be great), and a FASA registry number (even better), shouldn't you also use the name that comes with it? Of course, the U.S.S. Tokyo was a bad choice, since she was destroyed during the Four Years War, way before Heimann could command her.
Β On second thought, this solves the dilemma of the Tokyo-class Destroyer from the Starlet Recognition guide. Not a bad idea.

Β I'd have added a pair of dorsal aft phasers.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thefirstfleet In reply to JESzasz [2016-06-16 21:19:28 +0000 UTC]

I wanted to use my own name, something that describes the ship's mission. It has a single phaser bank on the bottom of each outrigger.
