Walkiria gradually became aware of the voices. They were muffled and distorted, as if heard from underwater or the bottom of a long tunnel. Wherever she was; it was free of pain and suffering, of hurt and heartache. But the voices pulled at her, tugged at her consciousness. It would be so easy to continue to slip further away, to rest. But the voices, they wouldn’t let her go. One of the voices seemed to pull at her more than the other. If she still had a heart, she would have said it pulled at her heartstrings. It made her want to hear more, to hear that voice clearly one more time.

She fought the darkness, shrugging off its velvety grip. It clung to her, resisting her efforts to break free. But then she heard that voice again, and it gave her the strength to keep fighting. She had always been a fighter; growing up, in the military, and finally as a heroine. Her nickname had been Valkyrie, the Germanic form of the word was her name now. It was with that same warrior spirit that she struggled now to regain consciousness. With herculean effort the red haired heroine managed to open her eyes and try to figure out where she was.

"Nyet Andrea, she is defeated and no longer a threat. We should proceed to Moscow before the Russian air force tracks us again,” Walkiria heard Olga say.

"Don't worry comrade, this won't take me long. She's barely hanging on. I kill her and we move on with the Great Revolution or whatever. Besides, it might make the other goody-goodies think twice and I know it will please the Mistress to make an example of this one. I might even get a go with Ultrawoman for it."

Walkiria glanced over to see the villain Dark Star step closer. The blonde criminal’s fists crackled with barely-contained energy. Walkiria tried to move but her body refused to obey. Deep inside herself she threw open the gates to the Source inside her. Energy for another dimension of reality flooded her body like an uncontrolled tidal wave. She might not be able to fight Dark Star, but if she built up enough excess energy, there was a chance Dark Star’s coup de grace would trigger an explosion that might injure or kill the villainess. Maia’s hope was that if she removed Dark Star’s influence, Olga might finally come to her senses. Walkiria wished the Soviet Superwoman could see the road to ruin she was on. Perhaps she would see the truth if Walkiria could take out Dark Star, even if it meant she would perish in the explosion.

Dark Star stepped over the fallen heroine. A feral grin on her face was evidence of how much she was looking forward to finishing off her enemy. Walkiria left her internal energy levels continue to swell inside her. She glared up at the villainess, mentally daring her to do her worst.

“Andrea, I said no! This will serve nothing but waste time. We must reach Moscow now,” said Olga as she moved to stop Dark Star from delivering the final blow.

Walkiria felt her chest tighten with dread as the Soviet Superwoman stepped closer. “Too close, she will be inside the blast radius,” Maia thought to herself. Summoning what physical strength she had left, she forced herself to talk. “Olga, don’t interfere! Let Boobarella take her best shot. I don’t think she has the juice to do it.”

Olga gasped as she heard her friend talk. Walkiria shouldn’t be conscious, much less talking. She stared at her friend in astonishment. Her eyes met Maia’s. What she saw there made her blood freeze in her veins. She had seen the same look in the faces of Russian soldiers as they prepared to charge Nazi panzers armed only with rifles and grenades. She had seen it in the faces of troops surrounded by the enemy while they defended Russian cities from invasion. She noticed the swelling of Walkiria’s muscles as her energy built towards overload; the way Maia’s eyes glowed with power.. With power, and with an emotion Olga had always hoped to see there. In a flash she knew what her friend was planning to do. “Maia, nyet, don’t..”

“No Olga, let her do it. Because I couldn’t stand to live in a world where someone I love goes from fighting for her peoples’ freedom to bringing a new tyranny to her own country. My heart can’t take that, Olga. Not from you,” Walkiria said as tears coursed down her cheeks.

Dark Star looked down at Walkiria with an expression of disgust. “Oh please. You think that matters when Olga can set herself up as the new Russian leader? Save it for someone who cares bitch. I’ll show you who has the juice,” she cried as she prepared to unleash her most powerful star blasts at the fallen heroine. “You are finished!”
