The model is tense. I think that is where the dissonance lies. Her expression is uneasy, almost suspicious. Perhaps she's just focusing on what you want in the pose very intently, but the vibe comes across as unease...which adds a bit of drama to the shot.

I'm not sure I'd agree that the model is tense but there certainly is tension in her pose. I guess only the model really knows how she was feeling and we can merely speculate.

I hear you there; yet in a photo that includes a human, the observer is immediately going to diagnose the emotional state, it's biological. We will try to discern the emotional state of the person or persons with whom we are presented.
