Description
**Oct '26 update: Lami, Gashadokuro, Emperor Zet!**
This is a ridiculous expansion upon the Super Sentai + Power Rangers Color Infographic www.deviantart.com/taiko554/ar…
This is meant to include all Super Sentai, all Power Rangers, and similar series based on the motif of multicolored spandex'd heroes. So far, I think 85 columns! There's a bunch of heroes/senshi here, both canon to Sentai/Power Rangers, and not.
[1] The very top row is meant to show which franchise a column belongs to. The V Shape indicates Super Sentai; the Lightning Bolt indicates Power Rangers; both indicates a Super Sentai series that had suits (and/or mecha) adapted into Power Rangers. Nothing in that top row indicates the below doesn't belong to either franchise. Left to right, the columns are arranged chronologically (mostly).
[2] Top to bottom, the rows are arranged by frequency of color with red on top. Yes, this does actually rearrange the color rows, excitedly bumping violet and orange up a bit and bumping white down (mwahaha!) The very bottom, separated from the "rangers" are ally characters.
[3] Within any given box, there are small indicators:
[3.a] Top left corner indicates where a character appears if not in a TV series: a film clapperboard indicates a movie character; an open comic book indicates comics or manga; a stage curtain indicates a stage character.
[3.b] Top right corner is special to adapted series: a V indicates Sentai-only character (not in the PR adaptation; Deka Gold for example); a Lightning Bolt indicates a Power Rangers-only character (therefore not in the original Sentai footage; Titanium Ranger for example).
[3.c] Bottom right corner is a character's generic bucketed status: blank indicates "core/starting" ranger, as indicated by Gokai Changes; a 6 means the "Sixth Ranger"; an X means any "Extra/Bangai Hero".
[4] The ally/supporting character rows are still something I want to work on in the future. They are separated out based on categories/patterns as indicated in this official book: www.deviantart.com/taiko554/st…
[4.a] The first row are "Full Suit or Prop Regular Character with Dialogue" (I need a better acronym for this than FSPRCD, but w/e). These are typically robotic support characters who are in a series on a regular basis from the beginning of the show.
[4.b] The second row are "Limited Recurring Characters or Limited Transformed Costumes". These are a range of characters ranging from a heroic ally with 2-3 appearances, to a mentor with a non-ranger transformed costume, and (eventually) to robotic support characters without dialogue. I kiiinda think Zenkaizer Black best fits this category for DonBrothers but TBD if I include him here. The book also indicates Mister Voice as falling into the non-robotic mentor category, which does make sense, but it's just a screen and no prop so I'm not sure I'm interested. In the same vein, I think a case could be made for Zordon. So if I make one, I'll make the other; but I'm not sure I'll make either. Maybe I need a new row for like, "speaking wall characters", which would include those two, Master Head form Goseiger, and the tree from Gingaman.
[4.c] The third row are "Limited or Recurring Characters' Dream or Home-Made Heroes". These are pretty self explanatory. The book does show Kameo from Dairanger in a similar vein, but that's literally just a dude in overalls and glasses, so I'm not sure I like the inclusion.
[5] The very bottom in dark red-to-black boxes are recurring transforming villains with at least three appearances. Self-explanatory, and a work in progress, but will include unredeemed villains who regularly transformed between a human-face/actor appearance to a suited monster form. I had a post a while back about possibilities, here: Another Infographic Admin Question
[6] Sentai/Ranger teams I don't plan to include here are anything where the helmets are identical, or nearly identical. The Dobutsu Sentai Go-Busters, Power Rangers Dino Force Brave, and Cosmic Fury are decent examples of actually different. The original 1995 Power Rangers Movie does not pass that test, nor do the Metallic, nor Wild West Rangers. Any of the Boom Comic "sentry rangers" don't pass that test. I also do not plan to include any power-ups. If I had the ability to make it interactive and like "switch on" power-ups, sure, that'd be cool...but I don't. I'm not really sure Lord Drakkon counts, or really even fits, anywhere at all.
[7] Series which are included but are neither Super Sentai nor Power Rangers include, from left to right:
Ninja Captor; Bankid; Dai-Nippon; Cybercops; Voicelugger; France Five; Mighty Moshin' Emo Rangers; Sport Ranger; Rescue Force; Rescue Fire; After-V; Giant Saver; Space Deleter; Rescue Engine; Ryuseiger; Dino Force Brave; Jushowan/Tokusatstu Gagaga; Gingasager; Triple Wing; Wakusaver; Junretsuger; High School Heroes; Jyuukaizer; Jinjyugar.
These non-Sentai and non-Power Rangers series I'm flexible on and happy to hear pitches on what else could be included. The qualification for inclusion is live-action show, or a comic directly tied to Sentai or PR brands, however limited (either limited by few episodes or a DVD special) of transforming heroes in multicolored costumes. This series must be its own thing independent from another toku genre (so no Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Metal Hero, Garo, etc). It cannot be a TV show which dresses up its characters for a special nod, nor anime/cartoon doing the same, nor a Sentai-themed anime/manga/comic series (so no Sailor Moon, no Samurai Troopers, no Voltron iterations, etc). And while it's arbitrary, I feel like there has to be at least three members in the team. I'd prefer not to include any of the myriad of Japan's Sentai-like Local Hero teams, and I think I'm largely good there since so many are lone heroes rather than teams. Based on all that nonsense, I'm happy to hear what people think on including other teams or shows.
Oh hey, fuck AI:
