This is something to do with the Iron and Steel-verse which won't come out for a while.

After Iron and Steel is over a number of short comic based stories are going to come out while I'm writing the fifth large prose based one. Among these short stories is one focused on Alan when he had just been picked up by HAPPY. In that story part of it has him designing technology to try and prove his worth to an engineering team named "Viterbi".

Years ago I would have done total BS for science fiction tech like this that didn't serve some high purpose. But I know better than to try doing that with anything I write today. ARES tackles a dilemma facing engineers in real life, how to make a martian suit which can protect us if we ever stepped foot on Mars. It also addresses two other matters. One which doubles into another. I like to be clever with names. Ares is the Greek war god where as Mars is the Roman war god. When I did the flashback story of Alan getting over having a fear of flying I wanted to show something in his family home which showed Greek heritage. That didn't happen since I couldn't Google anything relevant for it. Only ancient Greece came up. So what do you do about that? Bring up that culture's mythology. The second matter this addresses is I wanted to slip in at this point while the Cape Project hasn't been started yet, he even years ago was taking pot shots at flight technology. If Ares was spelled differently you'd notice Aiirrr-es "Air". The suit has the ability to process carbon dioxide into oxygen for it's air tank and also use it for bursts of thrust movement when needed in a bad place, in other words a form of jet propulsion.

Why would he ever think to make something like this? It was part of him proposing himself for work to both ILC Dover & Boeing.

In the story Alan's higher up recognizes it's a good design, but just a bit bulky. What if it weren't that way? Hmm, maybe he should look into a technology idea abandoned by MAD back when they were Scolex Enterprises?

The labeling over his name to Viterbi Team is because he meant it as a present to them. Slight fear of being fired otherwise.

This is not the first time I've made a piece like this.
